When football fans flock to St. Simons Island next week for the annual Georgia-Florida football game – Oct. 31 this year – Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering wants to make sure fans don’t leave anything but footprints on the beach.
“I am going to be increasing police presence,” he said. “We will have increased patrols and more officers on the beach than ever before.”
The mess left in the aftermath of the big-game weekend in recent years has been terrible, Doering said. But this year, the county is pooling resources on pollution prevention.
