The Democratic Party of Georgia has jumped into the non-partisan mayoral race. I received a flier in the mail today accusing Norwood of being a Republican. It has a couple of funny photos of elephants and some spin as proof she’s a secret Republican. It doesn’t endorse an individual instead listing three of the candidates, Borders, Reed, and McDaniels as people to vote for.

Even though I think Norwood is a dingbat and have no intention of voting for her, the state Democratic Party should have stayed out of it.

White light is the combo of all colors. An white object lacks pigment and thus reflects back all light. Shine a blue light on a “white” object and it looks blue. Shine a white light on a “blue” object it appears blue because all of the light except for the blue is absorbed.

Black is the absence of all color… it is the absence of visible light. A truly black object absorbs all light, though there are very few truly black objects so what what most of us would say is black is something close but not quite there. Which is good because you wouldn’t want to walk into a black wall at night because you couldn’t see it against the blackness of night.

This is why when you put lights of different colors together, be it stage lights or the LED in your flatscreen tv, they can produce white light while when you mix many different colors of pigment together you end up with something that gets closer and closer to black because the different pigments mixed in absorb more and more of the spectrum.

That’s ridiculous. The “business community” as it pertains to politics is that portion of the “business community” which feels the need to interact with politicians outside of the voting booth. A good portion would go belly up if they weren’t heavily involved in fraud, corruption, lobbying, nepotism, ect…

Of course the REAL business community (more appropriately called the real private sector) would be more to the tune of “somebody keep these jackals off my back”. There’s a world of difference, Progressive.

I said clean government is what the business community wants. Shirley Franklin went a long way to clean up after Campbell. Is it perfect, maybe not, but what little corruption that may exist is not driving business a way. The Chamber of Commerce would give Franklin pretty good marks for running a clean city. The sewer improvements, one of the largest infrastructure programs in the country has been well managed and scadal free.

And if you think Acorn is a significant force in Atlanta politics, or that the business community is concerned about keeping them satisfied, you have no clue. You may want to enjoy some more of Glenn Beck’s Kool-aid.

The real color story in this race is the grocery bag test. Once Atlanta gets past that, maybe it really will start to be about merit above all else. Mary Norwood’s election might be considered a step toward color-blind mayoral elections, but I would argue that Kasim Reed’s election would be a much bigger step in that direction. Of course the Gray Lady missed that part of the story; it’s all just black and white to her.

Yes, yes…and Shirley Franklin led a great city, didn’t she? NO. She didn’t.

Quit BSing on all your thoughts of “how” and “what” makes a good manager. It’s not that they’ve built “coalitions” with departments prior to taking over.

It’s that they are capable of recognizing what needs to be done, and what questions need to be asked. All your theory does is help produce the type of government Vernon Jones ran in DeKalb for 8 years: deeply embedded cronyism.
