The Athens Congressman was named Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person In The World” for the 3rd time. He beat out George Will and Rush Limbaugh for the honor. Anything that makes Olby mad is good for America. Keep up the good work Congressman!

Whereas anything that makes Erick Erickson mad is thuggery.

Doug Deal October 7, 2009 at 10:13 am

People actually watch that show?

DonnaC October 7, 2009 at 10:19 am

This is so funny!!! Talk about “between a rock and a hard place”– that’s how it must feel for those conservatives, who frequent this site, but think Congressman Broun is beneath them…

Ha! Ha!

ByteMe October 7, 2009 at 10:37 am

“Duck and cover”. Same as if a Republican politician gets caught criticizing Limbaugh in public.

Romegaguy October 7, 2009 at 10:56 am

He’s not a Congressman until he is sworn in

rugby October 7, 2009 at 11:13 am

My thoughts exactly Rome.

Bucky Plyler October 7, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Keith who? I get the chance to say this one more time !!

I wish that every state in the Union had a representative just like Paul Broun.

ByteMe October 7, 2009 at 12:57 pm

So that way we can blend in better instead of standing out as a state chock-full of crazy Republican politicians?

Anti-Harkonnen Freedom Fighter October 7, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Woah. Lots of pro Olbermann folk on here it appears.

Avoiding another quarter million federal employees in a massive bureaucracy called Obamacare and another 50k irs agents to track down those who dont buy insurance is a great idea – despite what Olbermann thinks.

ByteMe October 7, 2009 at 4:56 pm

Think of it as a battle between “crazy” and “anti-crazy”.

benevolus October 7, 2009 at 6:46 pm

And who is that that told you there will be 50,000 more IRS agents?

ByteMe October 7, 2009 at 7:10 pm

There goes that “anti-crazy” talk again.

Bucky Plyler October 8, 2009 at 10:16 am

What’s an Anti-Harkonnen Freedom Fighter?

benevolus October 8, 2009 at 11:55 am

Not sure, but I think it means they don’t like Sting.

Bucky Plyler October 8, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Sting the wrestler or the musician?

benevolus October 8, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Sting the musician. He was in the Dune movie. He played a Harkonnen.

Clone Of B. Plyler October 8, 2009 at 8:01 pm

That was supposed to be a joke…

Dash Riptide October 8, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Welcome to my world.

Progressive Dem October 7, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Broun = McKinney

ProgressivePeach October 7, 2009 at 4:36 pm

We’re sooooo proud to have Broun as a representative of how we think in Georgia. Just like we’re proud both our senators are pro-rape: http://progressivepeach.typepad.com/progressivepeach/2009/10/vote-isakson-in-2010-hes-prorape.html

Dash Riptide October 7, 2009 at 8:15 pm

I finally watched the segment. I’m so toccata and fugue-ing right now it makes me want to watch Rollerball again. If you have a clue what I’m saying without Googling, you’re cool but you’re old.

Harry October 7, 2009 at 9:17 pm

If you folks are representative of GA Dems, the GA GOP has nothing to worry about.

griftdrift October 8, 2009 at 6:19 am

Only Democrats criticize crazy Paul Broun?

Does that mean only Republicans criticized crazy Cynthia McKinney?

Harry October 8, 2009 at 7:19 am

Sorry to tell you, there’s no equivalence.

griftdrift October 8, 2009 at 8:40 am

Opinions vary

Harry October 8, 2009 at 8:44 am

Some opinions are better. Paul Broun is no McKinney. But keep trying to sell that to his district.

griftdrift October 8, 2009 at 9:11 am

I ain’t selling nothing. I don’t live in the district. I live in the 4th. You know. Where we booted McKinney. Must be shocking to know there’s that many Republicans in liberal Dekalb County.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 9:44 am

And replaced her with what, a Buddhist?

Holly October 8, 2009 at 10:02 am

Thanks to Harry for helping the rest of the state see exactly why the 10th is the way it is.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 10:08 am

You’re certainly welcome.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 10:12 am

Broun can’t be bought too easily. That’s why you political class wannabes don’t like him.

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 11:17 am

Ahhhh hahahahahahaaha!

Thank you for the funny posting, Harry.

griftdrift October 8, 2009 at 2:25 pm

So the way a person worships is a determinative factor in how effective they will represent their constituency?

Dash Riptide October 8, 2009 at 2:37 pm

No, just whether they’ll have a chance to win.

Progressive Dem October 8, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Wow, that shows a lot of ignorance and intolerance. Hope that’s not your better side.

John Konop October 8, 2009 at 10:58 am

This was a very interesting post by a former VC of the Cherokee County GOP.

Hell might be getting cold…

I actually agree with Keith Olberman after his heartfelt, hour long ‘Special Comment’ during tonight’s show…Insurance companies are the enemy when it comes to healthcare. KO recently dealt with our system firsthand as his father had a fall and was admitted to a local hospital. I also spent some time fooling around in the system recently as my dad spent 6 months going to multiple doctors for what seemingly should have been a fairly simple diagnosis. Ultimately he had surgery to replace a few heart valves and have a pacemaker installed at a cost of over $200,000 (not including all the doctor visits, multiple tests, MRIs, other hospital stays, etc.).

I still vehemently disagree with KO’s (and the dem) solution which is a government run, ‘Medicare for all’ system. But he is absolutely correct in stating the need for a united effort to end domination by insurance companies in our healthcare decisions.

Currently as one of the millions unemployed in America, I don’t have healthcare insurance. It is simply not affordable as an individual buyer. Considering how many are unemployed right now, there should be enough of us along with everybody else who is over-charged by these companies to fight them and force change without need of government involvement. That is what KO called for at the end of his show…a real protest against insurance companies. I agree.

Tricia October 8, 2009 at 11:47 am

I’m sure I’m going to regret jumping into this… but here goes.

I had a man stop into HQ during the last election cycle, simply to ask directions – he was driving a Lexus, wearing snake skin shoes and a silk suit (ok, jokes about his career aside) – alot of money was spent on making an impression.

He told me as he was leaving, thanks for the directions, but I’m voting for Obama, because I need help. I can’t afford health insurance and he’s gonna give me some.

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, it does come down to priorities. Just saying…

benevolus October 8, 2009 at 11:58 am

Be very afraid.

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 1:19 pm

More “crazy”:

“When I was sworn into the Marine Corps, I was sworn to uphold the Constitution against every enemy, foreign and domestic. We’ve got a lot of domestic enemies of the Constitution and one of those sits in the speaker’s chair of the United States Congress, Nancy Pelosi.” — Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) at a townhall last week.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 2:01 pm

What is Nancy Pelosi if not an enemy of the Constitution?

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Speaker of the House. Third in succession line to the President.

And you?

Bucky Plyler October 8, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Your point is our point !

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 2:36 pm

My point is that some people have sour grapes wedged way up their a$$.

I doubt that’s what you thought your point was.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 2:39 pm

All your points are belong to us.

aquaman October 8, 2009 at 3:49 pm

Thank God Pelosi is too stupid to be much of an enemy.

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 4:03 pm

Yep, so stupid she worked her way up to third in line to the President.

If you really want to win, NEVER underestimate your enemy.

aquaman October 8, 2009 at 4:21 pm

Worked her way up??? Her idiot constituency keeps sending her back and you make it sound like she actually accomplished something other than being elected by a crowd that would make the bar scene in Star Wars look normal.

benevolus October 8, 2009 at 4:48 pm

The rest of the House of Representatives who elected her Speaker look like the bar scene in Star War?
Why do you hate America?

Holly October 8, 2009 at 3:15 pm

A few points.

1. Dr. Broun’s general point was correct, though I don’t think properly translated in the situation. EMTALA was enacted in this country to make sure that no one would die in the streets. Anyone can walk into an emergency room and receive care, regardless of ability to pay. While the law requires the hospital to stabilize a patient, it’s often less costly in the long run for them to fully treat the condition.

2. That said, emergency rooms are not the best place to treat patients not in need of emergent care. For one thing, the cost of receiving care in a hospital is far greater than receiving it in a doctor’s office. I don’t think anyone disagrees with this. Secondly, it crowds the emergency room when non-emergent patients show up, perhaps delaying the care of those who need emergent care. When indigent patients use emergency rooms, we also know that hospitals eat some of the cost, and the rest of it get passed on to those of us with private insurance in the form of higher premiums.

3. Mental health is more likely going to be an ongoing condition. It’s difficult to be treated for physical chronic conditions in emergency rooms, let alone mental health conditions.

Dr. Broun is the cosponsor of several reform bills. A better way to answer his constituent’s concern would have been to talk about how those bills could help him gain access to care, rather than try to tie it into EMTALA.

John Konop October 8, 2009 at 4:01 pm

Holly

All very good points! BTW what is his solution?

Holly October 8, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I don’t know for sure, John. I don’t work for Dr. Broun, so I have no right to speak for him. I do know you can find a list of bills he’s cosponsored on THOMAS, which should be a good indicator of where he stands.

John Konop October 8, 2009 at 6:47 pm

This is the only healthcare related bill I saw from Broun would cost tax payers more money not less agree or not with the bill.

. H.R.227 : To provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery

BTW I am still voting for you for Governor! Keep posting!

Holly October 9, 2009 at 3:56 pm

I think that’s a bill he introduced. I thought he had cosponsored the Tom Price bill, but I don’t see his name. It might be worth calling his office, John.

John Konop October 9, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Holly

My first question is how does a tax credit, tax break, health saving account…. incent a person to buy health insurance when close to 50% and growing of people pay no income tax?

FROM CNN MONEY

47% will pay no federal income tax
An increasing number of households end up owing nothing in major federal taxes, but the situation may not be sustainable over the long run.

http://money.cnn.com/2009/09/30/pf/taxes/who_pays_taxes/index.htm?cnn=yes

FROM TOM PRICE

Politico…..First, to ensure that every American has access to health care, we must reform the tax code so it makes financial sense for everyone to have coverage. Measures such as tax equity for the purchase of care, active pooling mechanisms to increase purchasing power and focused use of tax deductions and credits will allow all to obtain coverage that meets their needs. Providing proper incentives, we can achieve universal access to coverage without one-size-fits-all government mandates…….

benevolus,

I was referring to her constituents but now that you bring it up yeah I’d say Barney Frank, Charlie Wrangle, John Murtha, et al make the Star Wars bar scene look pretty normal. And opposing socialism equals hating America; that is rich.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 5:46 pm

…Maxine Waters, Alcee Hastings, Sheila Jackson Lee….

ByteMe October 8, 2009 at 7:10 pm

But opposing imperialism from a Republican administration… that’s treason, right?

Your side will keep losing until you figure it out.

Harry October 8, 2009 at 9:31 pm

I never referred to anyone who was opposed to Bush as a traitor. I didn’t refer to Nancy Pelosi as a traitor either, but she is an enemy of the Constitution.

ByteMe October 9, 2009 at 5:27 am

So in your world, an enemy of the constitution is not a traitor?

benevolus October 8, 2009 at 8:49 pm
