I had planned on spending the evening relaxing and watching UGA football. But with 5:00 left in the first quarter, I have to say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group of people so unprepared and a game plan so poorly executed since Judson Hill’s last press conference.
So here’s hoping things turn around soon. I’m not giving up. I’m a Bulldog win or lose.
In the mean time, if anyone has the results from the Union County GOP straw poll, please drop them in the tip line, and I’ll get them posted.
OPEN THREAD.

I’ve received a few results and have been directed to the Union County Website, which has “unofficial” results posted.
Excuse me – TOUCHDOWN!
I’m back. The game’s now more interesting. I’ll post something at half time.
Is that the Union County GOP website or the actual government website? If it is the government website, doesn’t it seem strange for it to have straw poll results for what is essentially an internal fun poll for a private organization? Results for primaries, run-offs, special and general elections, ok, but straw polls just seem like bad use of government resources and could be viewed as an endorsement of that party. Even if they do it for the Democrats too, that only extends the endorsement out to the other major party at the expense of all other parties.
Of course if you meant the county GOP site, then all of this is a moot point.
I was in Blairsville and Tom absolutely dominated the event, and he wasn’t even there (speaking in Washington on the Capitol Steps). I fully expect a land slide victory for Tom Graves!
The only thing that seems real about Deal is how weak his showing was today in his home district.
Rumor has it that the next shoe in his ongoing ethics investigation is about to drop any day now… I just hope that good Georgia business owners are able to vie for that business once the monopoly he faught to protect is done away with.
Oxendine continues to fall in performance – he had virtually no support at the event. His supporters seem to be jumping ship…
Handel is the steady performer at this point in the game and continues to demonstrate strength on the trail. She gives a very sincere speech and has the real practical background and experience that’s needed. PLUS – she’s not a career politician who just serves in office – she actually gets things done as a public servant!
All of the canidates gave good stump speeches. This straw poll is going to be so skewed whether Deal, Ox, or Handle won because the majority of the people who were there IMO were people from each campaign. Don’t get me wrong, there was a great showing of people, for the area. None the less it was a terrific event put on by the Union GOP.
It looks like Graves dominated. Lee Hawkins was there working it pretty hard and clearly doesn’t have the strength district-wide.
Handel, Scott, and Oxendine both had a lot of staff and supporters there. Graves is very well respected in Union, Fannin, and Towns from what I have gathered.
Towns isn’t even in his district obviously, but he was people have been working for him. Maybe some more redistricting
Ox had a lot of staff and supporters there and Scott STILL got to within 3 votes of him?
Considering the general feelings about Scott on this board, this can’t be looking good for the sterile bull.
Scott actually bussed in a lot of folks whereas Oxendine just paid for everyone’s ticket that would commit to vote for him. Not much difference, but still…
What is Doug MacGinnitie doing? DeKalb, Columbus, Union. Either this guy is really working, or really lucky.
He has had a bunch of bodies for him at about every event I have been to across the state. A good organization!
Remember, straw polls dont mean anything if your candidate didnt win. At least that’s what the Ox people say
“Straw poll victories in Georgia were certainly important on my road to the White House”.—President Fred Dalton Thompson.
Good one Grit.
Since the post did say football AND straw poll…allow me. Go Dawgs!
Yes, PTA. Absolutely.
Go Dawgs!
FYI, DirecTV subscribers who don’t spring for Sunday Ticket can still see Stafford’s NFL debut for free on Ch. 711. He looks even younger in Lions blue. Very strange.
Thank You Dash Riptide! Is there anything you can’t do?
I know, right?
