Beam Me Up, Mr. Congressman

It has nothing to do with Georgia politics, but Jim Traficant has been released from prison.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run for Congress again.

Read the Washington Post Article here

“Look, I’m like a mouse looking up at an elephant, asking the elephant to surrender, quite frankly,” he said. “But you know, I’ll tell you something, I believe in America that we have gotten something out of hand here. I believe we have bureaucrats who run America, and people are afraid of the government.”

Hard to argue with quotes like that…

Consider this a list your favorite Jim Traficant Speech open thread as well.

I think I’ve posted this once before, but it’s been a while.

Trafficant was once the featured speaker at a fundraiser/fish fry for Mac Collins.

He was, to put it mildly, a bit sloshed.

When doing the arrival VIP greetings, he leaned down to a pre-teen daughter of a State Senator when she didn’t reach out her hand to shake his and said, “Well then, pucker up little lady”.

Good Times.

Are you thinking of having him as a keynote speaker at the next PP happy hour event?

It would be a blast.

All attendees would be required to be 21.

“All attendees would be required to be 21.”
And to buy him a drink. ;-) Gotta keep it entertaining.

James Traficant was a great Congressman….except for the whole bribery and racketeering thing, but other than that, he was great!

I paid close attention to that trial, and from what I remember, if he went to jail for that, pretty much every single member of congress and most governors should be sitting in prison as well. That will teach him to cross Clinton.

yeah, but didn’t he have shadiness in his past going back to when he was a sheriff…

Represented himself at trial, and was acquitted.

Demonbeck September 3, 2009 at 12:44 pm

IIRC, he was the only non-attorney to ever successfully represent himself against RICO charges.

This air outside the prison sure does smell good. (compairitively speaking)

I love James Trificant. C-SPAN has just not been the same without Dornan and Trificant. After those two left, C-SPAN jumped the shark as they say.

IMHO Dornan was voted out with illegal aliens being one of the deciding factors. Orange county WAS a conservative stronghold. Wonder if they ever ask themselves “Are we better off now than before?”
