John Oxendine has announced a new venture as part of his race for Governor: www.youcanstopobama.com
The website is a petition the focus of which is broader than just Georgia. As the email announcing the website says:
On a weekly basis, John Oxendine will update the members of Congress on how many Americans from around the nation have signed the petition. John will hand deliver the signed petitions to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid in Washington after Congress reconvenes.
Oxendine is also making the site a place where people can upload video messages to Congress.
I have already seen comments on facebook calling this a “ploy” just to grow Oxendine’s database. However, no one has called American Solutions a ploy by Newt Gingrich to collect members in order to launch an eventual bid for the White House. The reason is, many of the topics covered by American Solutions are ones which we have in the past identified with the former Speaker.
It may very well expand Oxendine’s database, but the topic is one which Oxendine is very familiar with.
As I have said previously on Peach Pundit, I worked for John Oxendine from 2002-2007. (Also for full disclosure, I worked for Newt Gingrich from 1998-1999)
During that time period, I had the opportunity to hear Oxendine give numerous talks and serve on panels on this issue of healthcare reform.
More than that, Oxendine has been pro-active when it comes to reforming and improving healthcare in Georgia. He has taked the lead to help build from the ground up the state’s telemedicine network, which has improved health delivery in rural Georgia. Oxendine is also the only insurance commissioner awarded the American Medical Association’s highest honor given to elected officials. He won that due to his work to help doctors better deal with insurance companies.
Oxendine’s long record on healthcare reform in this state proves there are solutions other than Obamacare.

I also don’t track Presidential politics Jason… if I did, yeah, I’d be calling Newt out too.
fair enough.
“However, no one has called American Solutions a ploy by Newt Gingrich to collect members in order to launch an eventual bid for the White House.”
I know I did, but I’m pretty sure that was on RedState.
As for the comments (plural) on Facebook, you’re probably counting both of Jeff’s. As others here may be surprised to note, I actually defended Ox on this one.
There’s plenty that Ox has given us to take exception with. Calling this a “scam” is trying just a bit too hard.
I’m with Ic on this one. I have actually signed the petition. I can set aside my differences with almost anyone when it comes to facing tyranny. Obamacare must be stopped for the sake of our country. I don’t want to see our “Republic” continue its decline toward Communism; we’re already socialist (or Fascist if you look @ the bailouts that started in the Fall of 2008).
Interesting….a “ploy”…you mean like…say a similar program offered by another candidate in the 2010 Goober race several months ago? That kind of “ploy?”
(Detente….detente….breathe-in, breathe-out…go out and walk the newly bathed dog…detente…OMMMMMmmmmmmm…)
Actually Bill, I made a point of mentioning BOTH campaigns I’ve known to do this so far.
In detail with no talking points can OX tell us how he plans dealing with Medicare and county hospitals passing on the cost of healthcare to tax payers for people not covered and under insured?
Also does OX think we should end mandatory insurance for cars since he is against any government intervention? Also does OX think we should stop treating anyone who does not have the money to pay for their healthcare because he wants the free market to take care of it? And does OX think that when people are brain dead that we should force them to stay on life support even when they do not have the money?
And does OX think that when people are brain dead that we should force them to stay on life support even when they do not have the money?
Does he think they should be forced to stay on life support even if they do have the money? What would Terri Schiavo do?
Since brain-dead I’ll still be smarter than most Democrats, don’t let anyone unplug me!
In that state, you make the perfect GOP voter!
Thanks ByteMe. With that rapier wit of yours, you helped prove my point exactly.
Ruh-roh. Now I’m a rapier.
Hope you dont live near a school bus stop
Can a living will include a provision to cast my absentee vote for/against a particular candidate or party?
Just wait until you research a [non physican] Congressman’s previous contribution from:
“The Medical Guild” bought and paid for takes on a new meaning which might translate to less existing low cost goverment medical care in Georgia.
They will want something for their contributions and that something is money regardless of who pays.
Follow the money in past lives.
This Sheppard character must be stopped and kept out of government. He looks too much like Ox, they must be related, and they both have afros????
I don’t like that Sheppard character either.
Remember the Star Trek: Enterprise
Season: 2
Episode #: 32
“When Archer and T’Pol reach the station’s computer core, they discover a horrifying sight: 40 humanoid bodies, pale and desiccated, suspended from harnesses, with electrode-like devices attached to their skulls. T’Pol notes that the vital organs of the bodies appear to be functioning, but they’ve suffered severe neurological damage. Their synaptic pathways have been integrated into the computer core, giving the station the knowledge of many different species.”
I’ll bet half of these brains were Technocratic Republicans, so be careful what you wishfor in in not being allowed to die.
Is Ox calling for the end of Medicare?
It depends. Are you for or against Medicare?
LOL
Funny, but unfortunately all too true.
Yes, John, as Governor of Georgia, one guy out of 50 states can call for the cessation of Medicare. There’s this little tiny clause buried way down in the Constitution that identifies Georgia as the “triple-X secret base state” that can rule all other states if you know how to invoke the right phrase in the ancient elven language.
That would explain why a candidate for governor is running on a campaign of _federal_ tax reform.
Chris,
Do YOU know the secret elven phrase?
I hope everyone will take the time to cast their vote in my GA Gubernatorial Republican Primary Straw Poll on my blog.

Thanks!
I just noticed something about this site he has up — it has no disclosure on it. That got me to thinking – is this being paid for by his campaign for Governor or is it being paid for out of the Insurance Commissioner campaign account?
Then, that got me to thinking even more so I checked the disclosure on the state site and just about everything done in the spring by this guy was paid for by his Insurance Commissioner campaign account to benefit his campaign for Governor – sponsorships, etc…
Isn’t that illegal or at least unethical?
No worries. I’m sure it was all just done by a close friend of the Ox using multiple Alabama shell entities, without the direct knowledge of The Ox.
Damn you lib’ral AJC for continuing to make Ox do these things!
thats what I was thinking, Icarus
Silent Outrage
WOW you caught me. I confuse Erick Erickson paid me 1 million dollars to post my last comment. Some of us are a part of a secrete society funded by the little green men. Please keep this between us.
BTW I hope you had fun at the last Star Trek convention.
OX TEAM
First Medicare is government run healthcare. And we all know unless we get this under control the federal deficit will explode. My question is simple unless we get end of life spending under control than how do we afford this? Should tax payers pay for a hip replacement on a person with less than 6 moths to live? Should tax payers pay for a brain dead person heath care? How does the free market system fix this problem? Once again what is OX calling for the end of Medicare and or county hospitals treating the uninsured and or underinsured?
Can the OX team answer the questions? I guess they avoid the question and or attack.
Why is Ox getting into this or the Fair Tax when neither have anything to do with the office he is running for? He seems to be all over the place. Focus John, Focus.
John’s Fair Tax plan includes promoting the federal bill, but also doing it in Georgia, eliminating the state income tax and replacing it was a higher state sales tax, like FL and GA have.
Does anyone have any information on how states that have sales taxes are fairing compared to states with income taxes during this downturn?
I think it is Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. And it looks like a mixed bag.
But this can also be very deceiving because you have to factor property tax and other taxes to get a real feel of tax rate and income.
Taxes by State
http://www.retirementliving.com/RLtaxes.html
Tennesse does as well.
You also won’t get a clear reading on 2009 until next year when individual income taxes are finalized for the year. Also, comparing 2007-2008 isn’t as instructive if you use Florida, just because the economy turned in Florida before it turned here because of the real estate collapse down there.
However, in general, I’ve heard that sales taxes are more sensitive to economic disruptions than are income taxes, just because people will stop shopping for non-essentials before they get laid off in a down economy… and they won’t start buying again until after they’ve been re-employed for a while.
But, let’s raise taxes on cigarettes and alcohol now in order to help pay for medical services because…in a recession, people tend to gravitate towards vices like cigarettes and booze.
Florida’s sales tax rate is close to ours and they have high tourism plus their property tax is higher on people who do not actually live there. How in the world will we go to a sales tax system without going sky high on the sales tax? Will ours be at 10 – 15%? We are after all using both sales and income tax now.
We have to cut spending first.
I’m pretty sure I paid 11.5% in Virginia Beach this week.
just wait until we get a VAT.
