Today, I think, is a good day to size up the field of Republicans running for Georgia’s top job.
Capitol Impact editor Tom Crawford reports that Congressman Nathan Deal may be one of those conspiracy theorists who thinks Barack Obama isn’t a natural born citizen of these United States. . .
. . .despite all evidence to the contrary [Crawford, Tom (July 31, 2009). The real Deal - he's a birther. Blog for Democracy. Retrieved on 2009-8-1.].
Secretary of State Karen Handel today received the endorsement of right-wing blog RedState.com [Fain, Travis (August 1, 2009). Political Notebook: RedStaters in Atlanta to endorse Handel. The Macon Telegraph.]. RedState’s managing editor, Erick Erickson, has consistently demonstrated how outside the mainstream he is with his inappropriate comments which include calling a sitting Supreme Court Justice a “goat ****ing child molester” and describing a former President of the United States as “history’s greatest monster“. With her acceptance of the Erick Erickson RedState.com endorsement, Karen Handel seems to suggest she agrees with the incendiary invective commonly seen on the Republican website.
And finally, John Oxendine has made putting Planned Parenthood out of business a key pillar of his gubernatorial campaign instead of devising a plan that would put more Georgians to work and help more people gain access to health care.
With this bunch of lunatics vying for the top spot on the GOP ticket next year, the fall campaign versus the Democratic nominee is quickly shaping up to be sane (D) versus insane (R).

Hopefully Obama and Hillary and Bill will come to Georgia and stump for the Democratic Candidates next Fall. I’m sure they can hardly wait!
I’m hoping that Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-Obama’s hometown of Chicago) will tour the Great State of Georgia and educate all of us on ObamaCare:

I look forward to being part of the team that whips Roy Barnes tail again.
Andre is proving with this and his post yesterday that when the cat’s away, the liberal rat will play.
Yep, Howard is right — it will be a pretty incredible sight to see virtually every Republican in this state unite, post-primary, to whip up on Roy Barnes once again..
I’ve definitely got a preference in the primary, but I don’t care if my guy wins or not – I’ll do everything I can for the candidate to make sure Barnes doesn’t get back in office. I’m sure that the majority of Republicans that post on this site feel the same.
Since the GOP is probably going to have to face Mr. Barnes as the Dem Guv. candidate.
I consider myself a fiscally conservative, socially moderate, traditionally GOP voter. I spoke out against GOP deficit spending beginning with the Gipper, but the roar of ‘irrational exuberance’ drowned most everyone’s voice, including mine. Now we see even more spending, to be expected, under POTUS.
Why is Mr. Roy Barnes such a bad choice? Other than being DEM, and this is a GOP blog.
Red State endorses Handel. In related news, “Dog Bites Man.”
We’ve got some characters running on the right that’s for sure, but I’ll take my characters any day over the other side.
Though, I will say that, while I disagree with their politics, on the left they do have find gentlemen running.
Come next year after the primaries and runoffs, I hope we have a very issues based campaign because Georgia is hurting in a big way after the past 8 years and we need leadership and real solutions.
Sonny Perdue’s lasting legacy may very well be that he was a good manager of government, but the state is hurting. We’re the number one state in terms of bank failures with rising unemployment and record cuts to education. You don’t have to travel far to see the real pains of these budget cuts — families losing access to public health care, cops and firefighters working harder for less pay, teachers still working hard even on those furloughed days. He’s provoked fights with fellow Governors with whom he needs to negotiate a deal on water and was absolutely AWOL from any discussion on improving transportation. Yet, GO FISH is fully funded STILL. Call it critical, call it whatever you want, but folks, Georgia is worse off today than it was 8 years ago and if we don’t get it together soon, voters are going to give Democrats and maybe even Roy Barnes another chance to try and get it right.
Silent Outrage…You say that Georgia is worse off after 8 years of Sonny Perdue. So that means Georgia was better off with Roy Barnes? But yet you don’t like Barnes? You confuse me…
Andre instead of being the DNC apologist, wasting your time trying to convert conservatives on a Peach Pundit or tick them off, why don’t you resurrect Georgia Politics Unfiltered? With the volume of posts on PP recently you clearly are no longer constrained by lack of time for BLOGing. While you’re at it maybe you can do what Senator Frankenstein couldn’t do – resuscitate Air America….
Because preaching to the converted doesn’t create new converts.
Because educating the ignorant is more rewarding the educating the educated.
Because Republicans who are quick to apply the phrase “goat f!@#$%” to people they disagree with need to be b!@#$-slapped once in a while.
Andre is only paid to post. Andre is not paid to answer comments. Your questions are futile, earthling…
According to Andre’s logic, you’ve got to crucify Roy and his unwavering support of that charlatan trial lawyer, John Edwards.
Deal might be a “birther”? Hmmm, perhaps I should consider him more seriously than I had before. After all, anyone who is willing to stand up and say, “JUST SHOW US YOUR REAL LONG-FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE INSTEAD OF THAT COMPUTER-GENERATED PIECE OF CRAP CALLED A COLB THAT DOESN’T PROVE ANYTHING EXCEPT WHAT GULLIBLE SUCKERS LIBERALS ARE,” can’t be all bad.
Bill,
To my knowledge, *I* only have a ‘certificate of live birth’ – and yet US Customs accepts it as proof of citizenship, as I’ve been on two cruises over the past couple of years.
Are you saying I can’t be President in 10 years or so?
Jeff 2020!
@Bill I am unsure why a COLB is not enough, that is what I have for my records as well.
This reminds me of the hoopla around FL SOS and Pres. Bush’s ’stolen election’ BS. Partisan sour grapes.
Jeff – you still won’t be old enough in 2020.
Jeff, if Obama has a “certificate of live birth,” he should show it.
All his people — not him — have posted is a computer-generated “certification of live birth,” which is something completely different.
Obama’s stooges continually try to say, “See? Here’s his birth certificate!” But anyone with any actual knowledge of these details knows they’re lying; when they try to call them on it, liberals and the media (but I repeat myself) throw up their hands and rolls their eyes in mock disgust and moan, “See? They won’t stop no matter what! We showed them the birth certificate, and they still ask for the birth certificate!”
Just show us your actual long-form birth certificate, Mr. Obama. Officials with the state say they have it, but they can’t release it without your permission. So just give them permission. How hard is that?
BG: Thank you for so ably embodying the whack-job wing of the party. You represent the GOP perfectly! Please, be more vocal about this issue!! You’re doing great.
Whatever, BM. I don’t claim to represent the GOP. But I do insist on fealty to the U.S. Constitution. Thanks for playing.
Doesn’t matter if you claim it or not. The rest of the world is identifying this “issue” as one that’s GOP-driven and nutty as hell. You only help the cause with your statements. Keep up the good work! Please don’t stop until after 2012.
Yeah, I’m sure this is the issue that will bring down the GOP, BM. You just keep repeating that to yourself in the mirror…
Why did a Democrat (PUMA, but still a Democrat) file one of the lawsuits if it is “GOP-driven”?
Bill.
Please provide your Certificate of Live Birth demonstrating you have standing to demand President Obama’s Certificate of Live Birth.
With all the crucial parts redacted, Bill…since identity theft is a real possibility.
I don’t need to redact. Mine reads “Barry Soetero”.
Chris, it’s obvious I don’t have standing. I’m merely an average citizen of the United States, and several courts have made it clear that we don’t have standing to question whether candidates for President are eligible to run.
However… at least two or three of the cases have been brought by other candidates who were on the ballot, and who therefore DO have standing. Does that make a difference? I’ll bet not.
Your headline is redundant.
Andre, the fact that the RedState Gathering endorsed Handel is proof positive that they are representing the tame right. You can relax now. Had they endorsed a real conservative like Ray McBerry, then you might have something to worry about.
