I missed this when it happened.
Democrats’ faith in the GOP’s ability to keep their own in line remains shaky, pointing to Rep. Paul Broun’s (R-Ga.) effort Monday to force a vote to adjourn. The move prompted Democrats to recess because with many lawmakers still out of town, they faced a real threat of losing the vote.
Good for him! No doubt he tried to do it to get some attention to the fact he has yet to be sworn in.

Or that he’s a real loon.
Considering that the Democrat-run Congress has already racked up over $1.1 TRILLION dollars in deficit spending so far this fiscal year, a Motion to Adjourn may be the best thing that could happen this year…
For your added reading enjoyment please note the following: Motions to Adjourn are typically procedures to protest a particular action by the leadership of the majority. For example, San Fran Nan and the Democratic (sic) Leadership (sic) attempted to prohibit Republican amendments to several appropriations bills, which are historically considered by an open rule, and as a result, there were continuous Motions to Adjourn, which prohibit too many Members of the majority from going to their mid-day fundraisers and conducting hearings, mark ups, etc. since the House floor is a 10-15 minute walk from their offices.
Notice the story doesnt say he made the motion to adjourn because you have to be a sworn in member of Congress to make a motion
I think it was a great move. They should have adjourned on Jan. 19.
Congress should also defund the Executive Office of the President, and have Obama’s only duties limited to those involving the Pentagon.
Can re restirct Congress to 40 days like the GA legislature?
Speaking of the General Assembly, Steve Thompson (D-Marietta) pulled a similar stunt one day this past session – also in an attempt to kill a bill he didn’t like. Don’t remember the exact day though, but I’m sure its in my twitter history somewhere, depending on how long that stuff hangs around.
Let’s just dissolve the entire Congress now, elect new Congressmen, and limit them to 40 days. Let’s also add in a stipulation that says if they finish early, they can get cookies.
Shoot, I’d say bring out the ice cream cart of we could get them to get outta there early. Ice cream for everyone on capitol hill!
Now with Nancy as speaker, make sure its low-fat, organic, sorbet.
I hear from a very reliable source that San Fran Nan absolutely LOVES pizza, and by that, I mean real, real, really real pizza – not that frou frou organic, soy-cheese crap that they sell at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s.
Your link is like the GOP leadership.
It took me nowhere.
I love the first line of that quote:
Apparently it’s the GOP’s job to keep quite. God forbid some Republican try to actually stop our mad rush to national bankruptcy.
Yeah. Let’s have a shutdown. How well did that work out for the Republicans last time?
No one’s talking about a shutdown, but you’ll have to admit that we’d all be better off if their session was limited.
If Congress shutdown, Grift apparently believes his world will end.
WTF?
Just roll with the non-sequitor rugby
How is that blue sky treating you today Grift?
Do you people read this site? Months ago I pointed out that Congress works only about 100 days a year and suggested that their sessions be limited to Jan. thru March and send them home to raise campaign funds on their own time.
we read the site, just not your comments =)
Romeguy, thanks for the reply. I look forward to you not reading my future comments.
I’m sorry, did you post something?
Thanks again. I knew I could get to reply.
Broun is the Senator Bilbo of the 21st century.
He’s a Hobbit?
I wonder if that’s part of the reason he can’t get sworn in.
Paul is doing a great job
Amen!
Good job,
Seems like there are some folks who just cannot tolerate someone who is totally wedded to their principles, as is Congressman Broun. Whether are not you agree with those is irrelevant, but to make snotty, personal attacks just shows a lack of ability to argue the specific issues in question.
I believe Paul is the only congressman, from Georgia, who voted against all bailouts from the very beginning–going back to the very first TARP under President Bush. I may be wrong about his being the only one, but I do know he voted against all of them, as well as the stimulus.
Donna, I’m 99.99% sure all of the Republican Members of the House voted against all of those bills.
Correction: I meant all of the Republican Members of the House from Georgia.
Seems like there are some folks who just cannot tolerate someone who is totally wedded to their principles
Can I use Pol Pot to get around Godwin’s Law on this one? I’m going to need a ruling.
I’m going to say yes.
Go for it. It’s all yours.
You know who else said it was “all yours”?
Stalin.
You cant call him Congressman Broun until he gets sworn in
Paul Broun is a man?
congressperson-elect Broun?
