Former Snellville Mayor Brett Harrell will seek the seat being vacated by Melvin Everson.
Harrell, who announced his run at a GOP breakfast on Independence Day, said Everson asked him to run for the House seat in his place. The two campaigned together a decade ago, when Everson joined the Snellville City Council and Harrell became mayor, defeating a 26-year incumbent.
“Economic development and transportation are key issues right now … where we need leadership,” Harrell said. “I’ve got a record of being able to deliver. … I don’t have to make promises. You can see what I’ve done.”
When asked why he began his 2010 campaign so early, Harrell joked about being unemployed after his recent ouster as director of the Evermore Community Improvement District. But he pointed toward his accomplishments in economic development and transportation issues along U.S. Highway 78 during the past six years as a reason he hopes people will support his campaign.
A South Gwinnett High School graduate, Harrell is a former owner of an American Speedy Printing franchise. His wife Diane owns Cut-Ups Hair Salon. They have one son, Briggs, 19.
“We need less talk and more action in the Legislature, and that’s exactly what I will provide if fortunate enough to serve you,” Harrell said.
Brett Harrell is a good guy who will make a fine Legislator. I’m sure you’ll see me knocking on doors in Snellville to help Brett.

F1rst, and hopefully only. *YAWN*
give ‘em harrell!
Go, Brett!
I don’t look at it as losing an Everson in the House, but gaining a Harrell!
Two things I know about Brett Harrell.
1) Unlike some of our other elected officials, Brett regularly shows up at GOP functions.
2) Brett has stirred the pot in Snellville, which is a good thing.
Ol’ SnellVictory is right wit cha!
