Q: Uponst whom shall I whoop?
A: The political consulting industry

I hold all of y’all personally and partially responsible for the sad state of affairs in our Nation, our State, and our GOP. To candidates: You have the right and responsibility to “Just say NO” to your political operative (POLYP) when confronted with clever trickery.

Campaign funding reform, disallowing legislators to pick their voters vis a vis redistricting, and focusing campaigns on the many pressing issues are prerequisites to actual change. Instead of the ABSURD pap yammered about above.

Political consulting industry – Murky, costly, unregulated, unknown to most, and yet, a dangerous necessity to become a lawmaker.

Kingmakers, Inc. history will not treat y’all well.

Meaning you can probably afford to heavily fund a plan, retire at 55, and provide a monthly payout stream over the remainder of you life comparable to what a retired government worker would receive. The typical retired schoolteacher pulls $45-55k/year. I know one retired schoolteacher whose husband died, who is receiving both her and his pensions to the tune of $90+k/year.

How many private-sector employees have enough assets built up in a plan to pay out even 30k per year for the rest of their life?

dude what are you talking about--as someone who has worked in both the public and private sector--i'm going to disagree with this assertion--also gov't pensions are not unlike the retirement one can get in the private sector with ira's and 401ks and the like--it's not a one or the other deal...

However, government employee unions are pretty weak in Georgia. I have looked out what the feds pay for a lot of jobs and was shocked at the salaries. Pay was sometimes double for the same types of jobs I did when I worked for the state.

Nope, government workers are now comparatively far better off than 98% of their counterparts in the private sector. Maybe 20 years ago what you said was true, but thanks to government unions it's now weighted in favor of government employment, and we can't afford to fund your defined benefit plan pension plans any more. Come over to the social security system with the rest of us for whom you ostensibly work.

Harry,

People are paying taxes to pay the salaries of government workers who provide services. Apart from US Senators and Congressmen there aren't windfall salaries in government.

Part of the reason there are government pensions is government salaries are significantly less than the private sector. If you want to reduce one benefit, will you need raise salaries.

I'll bet you are in favor of Uncle Obama regulating salaries in the private sector. I think he should cut your compensation too.

Since this is an open thread here is my comment for the Fourth. Public servants, bureaucrats, and schoolteachers should have their fat government pensions converted over to social security, just like the rest of us poor people who are paying taxes to support their ilk. They are the aristocracy of the country feeding off the working class. It's time for a tea party.
