You may not like my style of writing, but it is more technically correct than yours, if we look at just the two examples cited. If my unattractive prose and inelegant writing offends, you can opt not to read my posts.

By the way, you started your last reply with the word then.
Is it grammatically correct to do so? No. Then is a subordinating conjunction and subordinating conjunctions introduce dependent clauses. A sentence is an independent clause so, logically speaking, you cannot start a sentence with “then.”

The hijack police should be showing up at any moment. Poythress has no real solutions. Does everyone feel better now?

Of course this doesn’t mention the fact that “secondly” is essentially made up and inelegant.

In the sentence in question, “secondly” is an adverb that describes the verb look.

A complete sentence doesn’t need adjectives, adverbs or direct objects. I’m guessing you’ve never seen someone break grammatical rules for effect, or you’re going down the path of enlightened internet debate of becoming a Grammar Nazi.

There is no such thing as “secondly” when enumerating points. It implies your second point is only partly second in your thesis. It is also terribly unattractive prose.

I am proud of you for your service. You may dislike me “spouting crap” which you have admitted that is basically true that Poythress is a liar. I’ll admit I went too far with the aid and comfort comment, but keeping it in context, I was told the following:

“You can’t call a man in uniform a liar, because that’s giving aid and comfort to our enemies.”

So apparently it is being said that you are giving aid and comfort if you agree that he is a liar.

There are many types of politicians. Some are out for a pay check. Some are out for a sweetheart deal. Others just want government to work better. I consider myself the latter. I haven’t received a pay check for my political work in a long time. I’m not in it for the money. Power is subjective. You don’t need a title to wield power. If you get a title, then it becomes a question of what you do and why. People will always question your motives.

I would not demean you to say that you joined the military to kill people. Please give me the same respect and assume that I didn’t enter politics for the power.

Well, I signed up before 9/11 and had been retired for over 4 years on 9/11. I agree that Poythress is a liar, or at least is really stretching the truth, but I also know that he really is a patriot, and would never acuse him of “giving aid and comfort”, which in military circles conotes ‘…to the enemy.’ That in of itself would be treason if it were true.

You point primarily to politics to show that you are a patriot, yet many politicians today are in it more for power than patriotism. You are just like them.

I will not be voting for Poythress, but just like whitemalevoters, I dislike an arm-chair patriot spouting crap.

I have called the Democratic Party of Georgia many things. Yes, I have called them the Democrat party many times. I have also called them demon-rats. but that was in just and among friends. Before I go searching for a post where I referred to them as the Democratic party, I need you to do two things for us.

First explain why you are a patriot. I’m not sure why we are doing this, but if I have to play by one set of rules, so do you.

Secondly, take a look at an excerpt of post of yours. “Our market based system has failed. Completely.” Please give us a grammatical break down of the second sentence. We need to know what the subject of the sentence is, what the verb is, any direct objects, adjectives, adverbs, and so on.

I’ll take that challenge to explain what I have done that I consider patriotic throughout my life. I find it a little strange that no one else is challenged to do this or prove that they are patriotic.

There were a few years that I spent in college, and that’s just something I had to do to prepare for life. In 1988, I joined the College Republicans at Dalton College. I have been involved with the GOP in many different ways since then. I ran for public office in 1996. I have managed campaigns and ran GOP organizations. By no means am I inferring that others who are involved with the Democrat party are not patriotic. On the contrary, I think anyone who wants to get involved and try to make their country better either by running for office or trying to get others elected to enact real change are expressing patriotism.

I could stop there, but I’ll give you an example of service to community. I have been involved with the Alliance of Guardian Angels since 1989 in several different capacities. I have spoken with kids about not doing drugs. I have walked in high crime neighborhoods and enacted citizens arrests and walked in on and prevented muggings. I have organized neighborhood street cleanings. I have taught women’s self defense courses. I have ran into burning buildings to look for people who have been overcome by smoke. I walked into one drug area on the fourth of July where we held a news conference that we are declaring this neighborhood’s independence day from drug dealers and drug users and got firebombed later that night. I have help start other chapters in other cities, and was the chapter leader for Chattanooga TN. I am currently trying to help start a chapter in Atlanta. Who’s willing to join? Joe? WMV?

There’s more I could say about starting businesses, voting, posting on here, other groups that I have belonged to and so on that are different forms of patriotism. Does that answer your question enough?

I am confused. What was it you did from 1985-2000 to show your patriotism? What have you done from 2002-2009?

I understand that once in 2001 you almost joined the military, and hence are a great patriot, but what about the other years?

“White male voters” is a liar and a welcher! It doesn’t give me as much of a thrill as saying Poythress is a liar. I’m still waiting for proof that Poythress didn’t lie. If it can be provided, I will write the check that day. Unlike others, I am a man of my word.
