Over 2000 jobs in Georgia.

Fortune 500 technology firm NCR confirmed Tuesday it will move its corporate headquarters from Ohio to Duluth.

An NCR statement said the move would bring 1,250 jobs to Duluth, with another 870 headed to Columbus, where NCR will manufacture ATMs.

“NCR decided to create a single innovation hub for its worldwide headquarters in Georgia after extensive analysis of potential US locations, using independent data on the available workforce, infrastructure, financial incentives and government tax structures,” the statement said.

A last-ditch $31.1 million offer by Ohio’s governor to keep the company in Dayton fell short of Georgia’s bid, an NCR official said.

“We did not receive [the Ohio] offer until this evening. … It pales in comparison to what Georgia is giving,” he said.

The NCR official did not disclose details about Georgia’s offer. Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister said he did not know what, if any, incentives helped Georgia land the technology giant.

“Today’s announcement is just the latest example of how strong the relationship is between this great multi-national company and our state,” said Gov. Sonny Perdue, who is expected to discuss the move Tuesday afternoon.

With so many comments about where are the jobs coming from when we enact business friendly legislation–here is your answer. It is a great day particularly for Columbus to get 875 high quality jobs with a local payroll that will be in excess of $40 million. Thanks to the State Development office and the Greater Columbus Chamber for their hard work!

Wow. My wife and I bought our first house here in Duluth (I had been renting in east Cobb) because I was working off Technology Parkway at the time, and assumed I’d be working in this area for the rest of my career. Shortly after moving in, Technology Pkwy went from boom town to dot-com graveyard, and I’ve never found work near this neighborhood again. Nice to hear a glimmer of good news from the Gwinnett Place area for a change.

Steve, I used to work there too and had a house nearby. When the jobs dried up my reluctance to sit in traffic for over an hour convinced me to pack up the truck and move to macon.

Do they have anything to do with fishing?

Doug Deal June 2, 2009 at 3:30 pm

Romegaguy, NCR might stand for National Casting Reels.

Hopefully this turns into another UPS rather than another Spectrum Brands. Not sure the state will ever get back anything from that relocation investment.

And this has WHAT to do with Georgia politics?

Icarus June 3, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Oh Spacey, I don’t know, perhaps that NCR is moving here as a direct initiative of the current Perdue administration.

Is it really that hard to connect the dots?

Come on. I’m pretty sure Dick Williams will even talk about it on the Georgia Gang.

Now just go ahead and apologize to Erick so I can cross prediction 8 off my list.

We’ll even let you have the occassional Toby Keith moment, if you like.
