Blogging to resume in earnest

by Erick on May 19, 2009

I’ve been on a road trip across America with my dad for the last week. It was an awesome time.

It really wasn’t across America — just to Miami via Orlando. A great time.

In any event, I’ve been negligent on blogging duties and will return in earnest ASAP.

The Handel video has generated a lot of buzz. Ox’s campaign had a bad week. The Democrats are revving up. There is a lot to talk about.

Gosh Erick…..Your opinion of a “bad week” and mine are a little different……Just about everyone knows that you are an apologist for the Handel campaign, but at some point and time the credibility of Peach Pundit will come into question if you continue to post your non-objective opinions….You were completely out of the state while most of this went on so I’ll give you some of the details of Ox’s “bad week” from a Georgia Conservative’s point of view:

Sunday and Monday the AJC published two different stories designed to prevent Ox from becoming the next Governor of the state of Georgia. No matter how hard you try and spin it, the fact is that EVERY single Conservative in the state knows that the AJC is out for liberal Democrats and Centrist Republicans, leaving their attacks to Conservative Republicans.

Then, WSB-TV in Atlanta released an Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion Research poll that shows Ox with a 2-1 lead over his nearest rival, AND if you had both the the 3rd and 4th place finishers, they still don’t have enough support to beat Ox. (Oh yeah, Ox’s nearest competition is a man named Nathan NOT a woman named Karen…)

Ox’s “bad week” continued in Savannah where he won the Young Republican straw poll, the only one given over the weekend and also recieved the YR award for Legislator of the Year. He also had a VERY successful dock party that completely filled the dock to overflowing capacity. Oh yeah, he was also endorsed by the Georgia Huc-Pac blog……

(Something else worth noting at this point is that at the Convention dinner and breakfast, Ox had to add chairs to his table to handle his supporters…. It was really interesting at breakfast, the “Georgians for Handel” table was conspicuously EMPTY. Was there simply no support for her there or did her and her supporters have something better to do than listen to GOP Chairman Michael Steele? I’m just asking??)

John’s “bad week” also included the launch of a statewide radio blitz that is a positive ad that NEVER mentioned any of his opponents. He also went on to hire a statewide volunteer director and has announced that he has over 8 statewide grassroots coordinators that are either college students or just graduated from college.

LAST—but certainly not least–Oxendine entered the GOP Convention in Savannah as the FRONT-RUNNER…..and he left Savannah as the FRONT-RUNNER!
So much so, that Karen was doing flip-flops that would make John Kerry proud by Monday night. Did you catch her on WSB explaining to a reporter that her video was meant to be a joke and NOT an attack ad?

Erick, I know that it must be terribly painful that Handel is dropping like a martini glass on the Titanic…..and that Nathan Deal is now beating her…..and that it must be embarrassing that she is still in single digits in all of the polls….

BUT let’s be honest—–her HAIL MARY at the Convention simply did not work and blew up in her face!

One more thing, Erick….PLEASE keep us all informed about Ox’s “bad weeks”! My question is that if Oxendine continues to have “bad weeks” like this, how long will it take for Handel to read the handwriting on the wall and drop out??

newsmanatl May 19, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Well, she keeps making a big point of saying she left home at 17… so maybe she’ll do herself a favor and get out this bad situation early, too.

North Ga Indy May 19, 2009 at 1:07 pm

I’m a bit amused at the bias shown in Erick’s post. Ox had a good week IMO. He held his support and probably won more support than any other candidate could not even dream of doing. Your bias makes MSNBC, Daily Kos, Open Left, and CNN look fair and balanced. Please stick to real news from now on.

True Grit, aka Brian Laurens –

The Ox sure was freaking out Friday afternoon to have had such a great week! Btw – I don’t think it’s Karen you have to worry about but rather Congressman Deal. You can believe what you want to but Deal made up some ground last week. Deal’s surge and the fact there are so many other candidates to split the vote should have you worried. Thanks for all the inside info from the staff of The Ox!

Flip Flop?
Here’s Handel quote to the local Savannah TV station:

“It was a video of who I am, and it did poke a little fun at some of the good ol’ boys in the race and all, but all in good fun,“ said Handel.

ready2rumble May 19, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Looks like Eric’s not the only one who thought Ox had a bad week.

Reality check dude:

Friday, John Oxendine completely revamped his website to specifically REMOVE all the pages I referenced in ‘John Oxendine and Liberty’. (I do have .doc files of the text of all the pages in question, a move I did about 2 weeks earlier in anticipation of just such a move by Ox, and they WILL go up on SWGAPolitics.com at some point in the future.)

Romegaguy May 19, 2009 at 2:56 pm

So the YR’s dont know that the Insurance Commissioner is not a Legislator…

drjay May 19, 2009 at 3:15 pm

just kind of a generic term romey–rob doll actually won the award last year–i suppose a better name could be created–heck that may not even be the official name of the award given that not every winner has been a “legislator” per se…

they give a yr of the year–the kids award

and they give the legislator of the year–the grown up award…

GOPGeorgia May 19, 2009 at 3:41 pm

I think it was the elected official of the year award.

True Grit May 19, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Reality Check—-

Let me ask you something?? Which of the candidates do YOU happen to work for?? I know that it really befuddles you, and I know you are relatively new on here, but it might be a shock to you to find out that there are actual Oxendine supporters that post on Peach Pundit!

It seems that you are following the same pattern as some of the other partisan patrons of pessimism in that ANY positive words about Oxendine MUST be written by a staff member. Please keep lying to yourself if it helps you make it through the day……

Let me explain something to you RC: EVERYTHING I commented about above is public knowledge and requires NO inside information…..The AJC is still printed and read online but people other than Oxendine staff members. Channel 2 in Atlanta is not closed circuited only to Oxendine headquarters.
All of the other stuff can be read in Oxendines’ emails to his supporters.

Oh—except the observations about Handel’s absence at the Michael Steele breakfast. But that was witnessed by 7 or 8 hundred other people who cared to observe it.

So again I ask: Which single digit candidate are you employed by? You have to be a second tier candidate’s staffer to have nothing better to do than to TRY and throw rocks at the front runner.

Reality Check May 19, 2009 at 4:22 pm

True Grit/ aka Brian Laurens -

Let me set the record straight by saying I don’t have a stake in the Governor’s race. I actually am not a big fan of any of the candidates and I am hoping that Congressman Deal will change all that for me. Although I was not thrilled with Casey Cagle, I supported him for Governor until he got out. I don’t know what was more disappointing, Cagle getting out or Oxedine becoming the front runner. For the parties sake I hope and pray that “The Ox” does not win. I know plenty of republicans that will not back your campaign if he wins. His campaign complains to the party constantly and I have no respect for that. You are the front runner in a campaing that is 14 months away from the primary and you have been campaigning three times longer than anyone. You haven’t accomplished anything at this point so get over yourself or you will continue to lose people’s respect.

By Christmas you will not be the front runner!

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 4:56 pm

True Grit
There you go again with your bad attitude. You can’t stand for anything to be said about “your man”.

BTW – Aren’t you “new” here too?

Chris May 19, 2009 at 4:59 pm

True Grit isn’t Brian Laurens. He is a different member of the campaign.

Doug Deal May 19, 2009 at 5:08 pm

I concur with Chris. Anyone who does a goole search on “true grit”, however, is likely to come across enough information about who he is.

Here’s a hint, True Grit posted to the AJC discussion board that during the Presidential campaign he worked for McCain. Somewhere else I saw that he was a county chair, and he knows Macon and Bibb county very well. I won’t out who I am pretty sure it is, but it looks pretty obvious from what he has said here and elsewhere, and he is definitely not Brian Laurens.

True Grit May 19, 2009 at 5:12 pm

As far as respect for Congressman Deal, I can tell you that Oxendine expects the reality that there will be a runoff. The only battle that is being waged at this point is for number two. I look very forward to hearing from Icarus, Chris and Erick as Handel continues to sag further in the polls.

But then again, it seems that polls never matter when their candidate is behind…But they obviously do or WSB wouldn’t continue to pay for them.

BTW, Kellie…..I let several bashes of Ox go in some other threads…..My “bad” attitude only seems to be picked up after I defend garbage like Erick wrote above. And just WHERE is the attitude that’s supposed to be so bad? Just because I answered RC?

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 5:18 pm

TG
I don’t mind the defending and I hope you’ll continue to do so when necessary. You just come across a bit harsh and mad at times. Try doing it without attacking the other person. It’s still early and no one is out to get you.

True Grit May 19, 2009 at 5:21 pm

I never said they were out to get me…..Just Ox…

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 5:32 pm

I don’t think anyone is out to get Ox either.

True Grit May 19, 2009 at 5:40 pm

With due respect, you could sure fool me….

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 5:56 pm

I wasn’t “out to get him” but you thought I was. Everyone on here will engage in lively debate at times but the trick is to not take it personally and not to get mean about it. You are getting mad when someone asks a question or points out a flaw. Oxendine is not perfect, no one is.
I like hearing from people who already know who they back. I just prefer to hear it in a civil manner. Jason does a great job explaining why he likes Oxendine without getting angry.

There are plenty on here that have no made up their mind.

True Grit May 19, 2009 at 6:04 pm

I do apologize if I have offended anyone by my tone. However, I do feel that several people have ganged up on Ox unfairly and several candidates are given a free pass by the editor and front page contributors. I especially have a problem with that.

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 6:19 pm

What I see is none of the other “candidates” have put themselves out there yet. Give it time and all of them will be torn a part on here by someone. ;-)

debbie0040 May 19, 2009 at 6:50 pm

As far as True Grits’ or anyone elses identity, the bottom line is if they are posting anonymously, then they are are not going to be truthful in what they say about themselves. They could say that they are a woman, when in fact they are a man. They could say they live in Savannah, when in fact they live in Atlanta. They will want to protect their true identity.

debbie0040 May 19, 2009 at 6:50 pm

For the record, I don’t believe True Grit is Brian. Writing styles are different.

North Ga Indy May 19, 2009 at 7:08 pm

Me and True Grit are the same person!

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 7:56 pm

If that is true, you need meds. ;-)

Chris May 19, 2009 at 8:21 pm

I believe NGI is Tommy Sandoval. Except Tommy is backing Deal I think.

But I suppose he could back Deal for the office and still have the man-crush on the Ox.

Romegaguy May 19, 2009 at 8:26 pm

The citizens of Macon now have to worry about Erick being back…

Icarus May 19, 2009 at 8:29 pm

Worry? They now have someone who will protect the goats.

Bill Simon May 19, 2009 at 8:30 pm

But, now the sheep have something to fear…

Romegaguy May 19, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Will he have two hundred amendments drawn up to protect the goats?

Kellie May 19, 2009 at 8:34 pm

Chris,
If NGI were TS that would explain his dislike for me and Bill Simon. ;-)

kcordell May 20, 2009 at 5:48 am

Erick was gone?

Kellie May 20, 2009 at 6:23 am

BTW – I don’t think NGI is TS because NGI hates women. I don’t think TS feels that way.

North Ga Indy May 20, 2009 at 7:43 am

I was joking about being True Grit.

debbie0040 May 20, 2009 at 8:08 am

I don’t believe TS is NGI. TS , I believe, is supporting Deal.

North Ga Indy May 20, 2009 at 10:18 am

BTW – I don’t think NGI is TS because NGI hates women. I don’t think TS feels that way.

Oh BTW, I don’t hate women in general, I just don’t like them in politics.

Not true!

You loved Sarah Doyle!

North Ga Indy May 20, 2009 at 11:30 am

You loved Sarah Doyle!

NO I DON’T. I find her presence in the COA galling. She needs to be impeached and replaced by either Bruce Edenfield, Perry McGuire, Mike Sheffield, or Vernon Jones.

Bill Simon May 20, 2009 at 1:50 pm

I see NINDY is back to being NUTS!

RuralDem May 21, 2009 at 5:18 pm

“She needs to be impeached and replaced by either Bruce Edenfield, Perry McGuire, Mike Sheffield, or Vernon Jones.”

McGuire will not work. He’d last about two months and decide he’d rather run for Agriculture Commissioner or School Super.
