Between that and Hannity ripping President Obama yesterday for eating Grey Poupon, it’s clear the Manatee has jumped the shark. C’mon Pete, time to switch off Fox and watch some news for a change!

Since we have an open thread, here’s a bit of a brain twister for y’all…

If the “Fair” tax was to be implemented in the US, it would remove the government’s financial interest in the institution of marriage. Without that financial interest, there would be very little incentive for the government to continue to have anything to do with marriage and thus would likely get out of the marriage business altogether. Gay marriage, plural marriage, marriage to minors and relatives, marriage to animals and inanimate objects would all then be possible since it would be up to the values of the various religions to decide what constitutes a marriage.

Of course, being that the government would no longer be in the marriage business, it could still prosecute people who do sick things like having sex with their underage “spouse”. It would also get rid of some of the weirder marriage loopholes that currently exist that allows some to avoid being prosecuted under these laws.

So, if one is to agree that the “Fair” tax would lead to the government getting out of the marriage business, would it be fair to say that this change in tax law is anti-family and would bring to life all of the nasty crazy things that are being said would be the consequence of allowing marriages that are in any form other than one man and one woman?

Obviously some will disagree that the government would get out of the marriage business if the “Fair” tax was implemented but I have my doubts that it would put in the effort to keep control when there wouldn’t be much in it for the government any more.

(I put “Fair” in quotes because I don’t believe there can ever be a tax system that is fair. There will always be winners and losers in any system, though certainly there are some systems that would be more equitable than others.)

A fair tax would hardly get the government out of marriage. There is statutory and case law concerning employee benefit plans and other tax-qualified plans dependent upon marital status, to cite but one area.

Harry May 7, 2009 at 11:16 pm

The fair tax would eliminate some marital tax benefits, but would set up a whole new class of such benefits. For example the tax-exempt floor or credit amount for a married couple would probably be different than for a single person.

Elimination of the income tax law could lead to reform in many other areas, including health care, education, and many of the current advantages enjoyed by large organizations.

“….time to switch off Fox and watch some news for a change.”

Like who Peach? Keith Olbermann the main Obama cheerleader? Rachel “Cha-Chi” Maddow who I don’t even think likes herself? Or Chris “I’m just gushy and weak in the knees about Obama” Mathews? Fox may be slanted right but it is at least refreshing not to have to hear one of these so called “journalists” who have complete orgasm and ejaculation at the mere sound of Obama’s name.

Terran1212 May 8, 2009 at 8:53 am

Maddow frequently has GOP guests and is a frequent critic of Obama. FOX compares him to Hitler on a daily basis. FOX is a joke.

bryce May 8, 2009 at 9:03 am

If everyone who compares a sitting US president to Hitler is a joke then we all need to be laughing hard at the lefties. Will all the jokes in the Dem. party please resign now. Will all the “journalists” who wore out the Bush=Hitler allegory please turn in their press cards. Will all the blogger s who “brown-shirted” their way through eight years please give up their domain names. They all are all jokes…right?

True Grit May 8, 2009 at 9:19 am

Hmmmm…..Sean Penn called Bush “Beelzebub”……

Check out the clips by CNN’s Susan Roesgen:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/?pageId=95614

She sure hates it when Obama is compared to Schicklegrubber…..But not so much when Dubya gets the Furhrer name.

Ollie Stone called Bush Hitler…..

Maddow might be critical to Obama for using the wrong mustard or something on his hamburger, but she sure isn’t going to criticize policy.

Fox leans right, no doubt. This still doesn’t equal NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and almost every major daily newspaper in the country along with Newsweek and Time magazines. Quit your whining Terran. You pinkos own the media.

“Maddow frequently has GOP guests. ”

Idi Amin frequently had guests of the opposition party as well.

Bloggers now are equivalent to the NYTimes?

Link please my azz. Fatuous demands of proof that the grass is green aren’t going to wash here. The only people who have not seen Bush=Hitler from the lefties for eight years have room temperature IQ’s and a billion links would not matter.

Bill_k May 8, 2009 at 9:51 am

Examples of Bush being compared to Hitler are given as an excuse for Fox comparing Obama to Hitler, but how many news organizations have compared Bush to Hitler? Any? And I don’t mean guests – I mean the broadcasters or hosts themselves. Fox consistently lies and distorts to benefit the Republican party. They are way beyond slanted. I agree that Fox is a joke.

Also, anyone comparing an American president to Hitler loses respect in my book.

No, what I want is something to substantiate this:

“Will all the “journalists” who wore out the Bush=Hitler allegory please turn in their press cards.”

If you can’t or won’t do that, you are merely spouting BS.

Just one link showing the bias. Look at the video in the middle of the page.

Of those (at work, can’t watch YouTube) only one seemed like a “legitimate” journalist, and only barely as she’s more of a feminist author, I’ve heard of none of them, all were movement writers, and all worked specifically for liberal goals.

I guess I should have clarified at the beginning, but that is kind of like saying William Kristol is a regular old journalist. He isn’t and neither are the above authors.

I’d really like to see an article (non-opinion btw) published in a real news outlet, where the journalist made a comparison between Bush and Hitler. I mean, I can provide plenty of right wing kooks’ articles that say salacious things about Obama, but I’m not going to pretend they are indicative of anything, really.

World Net Daily

*giggle*

anewday May 8, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Well the actual article wasn’t what i was pointing towards. If you watch the youtube video that is embedded in the article there is a CNN reporter who see’s a paper mache mask of President Bush with a Hitler mustache and a Hitler haircut and calls it a Bush look-a-like. I know it isn’t huge but if you continue looking at the video it goes on to show her feelings toward Barack Obama being called a facist. If nothing else it just shows the bias.

Harry May 8, 2009 at 9:15 pm

Which Fox journalist compared Obama to Hitler?

SpaceyG May 9, 2009 at 4:08 pm

If I was an alien, and I’m not saying I’m not, and I landed on Earth and saw Erick Erickson on TV I’d turn around and haul ass back to another galaxy. Maybe we can sell Erick to the DOD as a cheap defense device?

Romegaguy May 9, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I would be more scared of a drag queen singing Toby Keith songs

SpaceCase, how long have you been holding that *gem?* in reserve to spring it all on us here at the *right?* moment?
