It is absurd to compare the labels “left” and “right” or “conservative” and “liberal” across political boundaries. They are terms that are nigh meaningless when used within our own, so their applicability to Nazi German is pretty much zero.

A better comparison is in the size and scope of government. Nationalizing corporations, directing the economy from central planning, turning people that disagree with the current leader into enemies of the state, and punishing the unpopular with acts from the national legislature, who does that sound like?

Bill: The Nazis were both rightwing a leftwing, the latter hoping to institute truly socialist policies, the rightwing — Hitler leading — using the clueless left to get into power. He then then isolated or killed them. The result was a rightwing totalitarian nation where communists and liberals had no say…except on penalty of death. It began as a “big tent” party and evolved into something quite different.

Really? That doesn’t sound very conservative/Republican of you? Are you waiting for the Governement to ressurect your obviously mismanaged 401k? I’ve forgone the 401k and invest on my own, and guess what, in the past two weeks I’ve made a killing being self-reliant and buying up under-valued stocks for my short-term portfolio. My long-term portfolio is full of under-valued recessionproof stocks as well….I’m not an idealogue, so when you guys see evil socialism, I see the potential for profit…call me spineless and unprincipled if you like

If we can pass a resolution honoring sweet tea I hope that we can pass a resolution honoring the first African American to be elected as our President of the United States. That’s what this resolution aims to do, albeit with flattery language and such which is irregardless of the greater point of the resolution.

Sorry, Yellowhammer, but, again, your time line is wrong. I was there that day….on the FIRST day in this scenario, the group of privileged resolutions were read on the floor of the House by first caption only and then the Speaker asked if there were any objections and that is when Rep. Scott objected, as is his right according to House rules. The resolution was pulled from the stack and then the bundle of other resolutions were voted on. But the one about Obama was held out. It was “held” the next day and then on the day after that was when the vote was held. On the FIRST day of his initial objection, Rep. Scott later that afternoon attended the Senate Committee meeting to which you referred. It was there that Senator Jones voted, as well as others, “Do Not Pass”. Your time line is wrong. Check your facts and your timeline. I was THERE and saw it all.

IMHO why don’t they grow a pair and if they like Obama and think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread then they should vote for the resolution. However if they think he’s an imposter and a radical left wing socialist they should vote “HELL NO” IMHO. And for the politically minded folks, the only thing that really stands the test of time rather than all the zig zagging around, is people who stay consistant. Apparently this is pretty easy for us “average Joes” and not so easy for those worried about the “political repercussions”. Heck even the liberals appreciate people who don’t turn on a dime with their supposed “views”.
