Randy Evans to step down after four terms as General Counsel

by Jason Shepherd on March 9, 2009

According to a letter sent out by Chairwoman Sue Everhart, Randy Evans will step down as General Counsel of the Georgia Republican Party after 4 terms. He was first appointed to the position of General Counsel under Chairman Ralph Reed in 2001 and has been reappointed 3 more times. Anne Lewis, who currently serves as Deputy GC will become GC after the State Convention, which will still be chaired by Evans.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Randy Evans for more than twenty five years; I hope he stays involved in Republican politics in a very active and creative way.

He will in many ways. For instance, he still will serve as one of the Republican appointments to the state elections board. The legal opporations he has put together as General Counsel have become the model for the GOP nationwide. I had the opportunity this past election of volunteering as part of the legal team as a 3rd year law student. I will volunteer again next election cycle since I will have (hopefully) passed the bar by then.

Anne Lewis has been there as Deputy GC through most of this time and has been part of putting together these operations as well. She will be able to hit the ground running.

Some times you just feel like it’s time to pass the torch. That’s what Randy did.
