Is There A $5 Billion Porn Bailout In The Works?

It could happen if two leaders of the multi-million dollar porn industry have their way.

Jason Pye points us to a Fox Business article focusing on a recent $5 billion federal bailout request from Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis and Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis and “Hustler” magazine publisher Larry Flynt have said they will petition Congress for financial aid along the lines of what the Big Three auto makers are getting.

Francis said that he and Flynt are asking for $5 billion, and that they have sent letters to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Congress and their local Congressman, Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) with the proposal. Rep. Waxman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Citing the 22% decrease in DVD rentals and sales resulting from more people turning to internet porn sites such as YouPorn and RedTube, Flynt and Francis say they will use the $5 billion to “invest in building new means of distribution.”

“We will use the money wisely, and we will create more jobs,” the Hustler magazine publisher told Fox Business.

The irony here is that after federal bailouts of Wall Street and the auto industry, Larry Flynt’s request doesn’t seem so far fetched.

Now, let the double entendres commence.

The question on my mind is whether this stimulus package can get rammed through Congress without screwing too many Americans.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 8:33 am

No wonder they call it the Hustler.

Icarus January 8, 2009 at 8:43 am

These guys have made a career trying to figure out new ways to cause inflation, but this is really out of the box.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 8:45 am

I’ll need to see some H-3 data before rendering a decision.

Dash Riptide January 8, 2009 at 9:08 am

The irony here is that after federal bailouts of Wall Street and the auto industry, Larry Flynt’s request doesn’t seem so far fetched.

Since the comic effect is deliberate, the request is more satire than irony. Flynt is illustrating absurdity by being absurd, and reminding people that he’s still alive and kicking in the process. That’s just how he rolls.

jenny January 8, 2009 at 9:40 am

Mmm. So many comments come to mind, so little time, or space in this box.

But imagining that their contributions to America’s bottom line are a benefit to the economy and our culture is cute. Much like casinos try to claim they add something because their trade forks over what–4 or 5 billion in tax revenue every year. But they fail to point out that they cost taxpayers 40 billion a year in all the scum that collects and grows around their industry. Drugs, child trafficking, prostitution, and on and on which increases the costs of the judicial system, etc.

I’m glad they came forward. It hopefully points out the lunacy of everyone else’s bail out request to even the most thick headed of our citizenry.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 9:55 am

I wonder if the Fed could simply donate some “press time”. (they could print millions in no time flat)

Buzz Brockway January 8, 2009 at 10:18 am

I’d like to see Congress try to explain how the porn industry can be allowed to fail when every other industry cannot. Of course Flint probably has dirt on enough Congressmen to get this passed without debate.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 10:25 am

Flynt could declare moral bankruptcy. (right after Congress)

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 10:30 am

If the Fed printed out Hustler magazines would they use red ink or pink ink?

Rogue109 January 8, 2009 at 10:32 am

Andre is the SpaceyG for 2009. Next he’ll be live blogging the Georgia Gang for us.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 10:42 am

Will there be dolphins?

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 10:43 am

I heard SpaceyG is doing community theater now. She plays the character from SNL who sniffs her underarms.

rugby fan January 8, 2009 at 10:57 am

Johnson said it was too big to fail.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 11:30 am

What does this have to do with John Holmes?

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 11:37 am

Well looks like I’ve covered some of the easy ones.

“Git thar fustest with tha mostest.”

Bill Simon January 8, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I’ll betcha Larry Flynt owns YouPorn and he just succeeded in getting $5,000,000 in free press to get that site promoted in a nationwide story.

albert January 8, 2009 at 6:59 pm

Perhaps the Bibb County Commissioner that made some calls to Girls Gone Wild will now get in on some realllllll action.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 7:35 pm

If Larry Flint stuff is online, this could help with the trees/landfill problem.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 7:36 pm

The only thing missing is a porn Tzar and a porn actors guild. But how do you know when she’s acting?

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 7:42 pm

These bailouts are all about helping out the big boys, giving them the upper hand and in a roundabout way, eliminating innovation, entrepreneurs, and competition.

My advice: Stock up on amateur vids. magazines while you can.

Icarus January 8, 2009 at 7:48 pm

“But how do you know when she’s acting?”

More importantly GF, why do you care? Just leave her an extra $20 on the dresser when you leave.

Game Fan January 8, 2009 at 7:49 pm

Damn union dues.

Rick Day January 8, 2009 at 11:02 pm

We must do this for the children….

Icarus January 9, 2009 at 2:18 am

Rick makes a good point.

How will the children ever understand and appreciate the resourcefulness it takes to buy a magazine from a gas station attendant when you’re 12, if porn is just given away free online.

This industry NEEDS this money.

It’s for the children.

Bill Simon January 9, 2009 at 9:51 am

Strippers/hookers who don’t abort their pregnancies gotta live and support their kids too.

Oh…wait….once the fetus is born, the pro-life conservatives don’t give a **** about that mother anymore.

Dash Riptide January 9, 2009 at 10:11 am

Oh…wait….once the fetus is born, the pro-life conservatives don’t give a **** about that mother anymore.

Or the child, for that matter.

Game Fan January 9, 2009 at 1:29 pm

If this passes we should demand more transparency. Because I’m sick and tired of trying to look at the cover through that sealed plastic thing.

Romegaguy January 9, 2009 at 2:31 pm

I’m jacked up about the possibilities

Bill Simon January 9, 2009 at 3:09 pm

(chucking WAY too long after Rome’s comment)

Bill Simon January 9, 2009 at 3:10 pm

(chuckling, I mean)

And WHAT is with PP delaying me from posting more than one post per 30 seconds?

Daniel N. Adams January 9, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Has anyone said “stiff economic stimulus package” yet?

Romegaguy January 9, 2009 at 3:24 pm

$5 billion. But remember, it’s not the size of the package that matters

umustbekidding January 9, 2009 at 5:45 pm

Congress will “rise” to the occasion so bend over America.

jenny January 9, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Game Fan January 10, 2009 at 2:50 pm

CORRECTION:

“These bailouts are all about helping out the big boys.”
shoulda said:
“These bailouts are all about helping out the big boys AND BIG GIRLS.”

Romegaguy January 10, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Just learned Game Fan is in to fat girl porn

Game Fan January 10, 2009 at 4:26 pm

I just don’t think that they need an added advantage. If they become conceited then how does that help? Then they won’t be so “hungry for bizness”.

Game Fan January 10, 2009 at 4:27 pm

Is there a way to work Monica Lewinsky into this thread?

IndyInjun January 10, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Why not?

We are in the beginning throes of an ORGY of bailouts.

The conservative mayor of Augusta just hitched his wagon to a staggering $417 million wish-list that he hopes Obama will fund.

When this will get to be fun is when muni bonds are bailed-out, for the USTreasury will be amputating its lower extremities with 8 guage blasts then.

Bill Simon January 10, 2009 at 4:55 pm

$417 million is many decimal places below $1 Trillion…drop in ye’ ‘ole bucket.

IndyInjun January 10, 2009 at 5:21 pm

With drops that size, they don’t need a bucket or even a barrel.

They need an oil tanker.

Look at it from this POV. $417 million is more than 10% of the total that the entire state of Georgia seeks.

It DOES look immaterial though. Last year Nouriel Roubini revised his cost of the economic disaster to $4 trillion. We have topped that already and the insanity that is exploding tells us that the total damage will be $25 trillion or more.

Politicians at all levels have completely lost their minds.

The people have lost their futures and those of their children.

Dr. Gono economics rules the world.

jenny January 10, 2009 at 6:18 pm

Oh, goodie. Is Newt around here somewhere? Please, Newt. Tell us about Monica and Bill. Waste the whole country’s freaking time, ignoring all the real issues in America, while you discuss the fact that our President is having a few extra meetings in the oval office.

rugby fan January 10, 2009 at 9:27 pm

“Is Newt around here somewhere?”

You rang?

umustbekidding January 10, 2009 at 9:32 pm

There is no way you are Newt. Not even close.

jenny January 10, 2009 at 11:13 pm

Rugby Fan (Newt)

Your American Solutions suck and I hate them.

Romegaguy January 11, 2009 at 11:12 am

And with Jenny’s last post we bring Monica Lewinsky into this

rugby fan January 11, 2009 at 2:28 pm

That can be arranged.

jenny January 11, 2009 at 11:17 pm

Hahahahah.

LOL.

OH, man. I walked right into that!!!

LMAO!

Me, Monica….Newt…I shouldn’t add I miss Bill at this point….
