In less than a week the State Legislature will return to Atlanta (run for your lives!). In addition to the new laws that will be considered, many Legislators will consider their own political futures. Several officials have made their intentions known, but many others have not. I thought it might be fun to throw some names out there for consideration:
GOP Governor: We know about Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and Insurance Commissioner Oxendine. Will SoS Karen Handel jump in? How about Herman Cain? Who else might jump in?
Dem. Governor: David Poythress is out there and many think former Gov. Roy Barnes may attempt a comeback. How about Rep. Dubose Porter? Anyone else?
GOP Lt. Governor: Senators Eric Johnson and David Shafer are both running hard. I doubt anyone else gets in this race. Agree?
Dem. Lt. Governor: I haven’t heard any names. Who’s out there? Surely a Democrat Senator wants this job.
Secretary of State: If Karen Handel runs for Governor, who will seek the open seat? I’ve heard of at least one State Rep. who is thinking about it. What are the rumors out there?
Insurance Commissioner: Who will seek this open seat? Again, I know of a State Rep. thinking about it whose name I’m not a liberty to share.
Attorney General/Agriculture/Labor/Education/PSC: Who wants to take on Thurbert Baker/Tommy Irvin/Michael Thurmond/Kathy Cox or a PSC Board Member?
Also, with Senators Cagle, Johnson and Shafer creating open seats, who might seek those seats?
UPDATE: As drjay mentioned, Politics1 has a list of potential candidates. Here’s the link, and here is there list of potential Governor and Lt. Governor candidates:

fishtail & N. GA. Indy – consider yourselves warned.
Get off the pornography before it destroys you.
Pornograhy?? Why, I don’t even own a pornograph!
Icarus, move that post of Peach’s over to the Daily Bible Reading one…
Fish,
This blog is political pornography. You participate in it; ergo, you push poli-porn on us.
If Isakson got in the race, the whole dynamics of the race would change. Isakson would be a shoo in .. Wish he would run
Oxendine is currently a shoo-in over Cagle.
“Honey, my grandkids call me a ‘Hottie’!!!!”
Peach, please keep such details to yourself.
North Ga Indy
You should show proper respect for GOPeach! I may disagree with her at times but she is a mother and a grandmother and you have stepped way over the line. Swearing at her shows no class!
What Konop, you showin’ sympathy for that b*tch.
I will never ever show respect for that SOB GOPeach in my days on here. She makes Bill Simon look like Jesus compared to her. Rot in hell GOPeach.
NGI/Nindy/Magic Jeff,
Inappropriate.
Apologize. Now.
No Icarus, I mean what I say.
And there are ways to say things to make a point in civil conversation. You can either do that, or blog elsewhere. It’s your choice.
All right Icarus, I will say things to make a point in civil conversation.
Icarus,
I think the “Rot in Hell” line is appropriate and “civil,” don’t you think?
Well sure, but nobody talks to my man Konop that way.
Actually, Bill, I’m sure he’s looking to you as an example, and not realizing that, much like Flounder, you’re a legacy, and there’s not much we can do about you.
Please be nicer to Peach. She’ll get herself banned again soon enough on her own without help from either of you.
Icarus…I was ON PP long before you were, you young whippersnapper.
Cagle in a landslide. He will beat the snot out of oxendine, and beat the crap out of Karen” my career is more important than a family” Handel. Isaksons weak stance on immigration and support of the bailout will kill him back in GA. He lost touch in DC….
Karen” my career is more important than a family” Handel
Who the F*** are YOU to judge what people wish to do with their lives?
YOU are certainly NO “Reagan Republican.” Reagan wasn’t interested in sticking his nose into American people’s private lives.
GO OXENDINE!!!
Someone who is a lot tougher than you….. How can she relate to my kids when she has none… She could have adopted. At least should could have adopted her dogs from a shelter instead of buying dogs from puppy mills. We have not forgotten her ties to Planned parenthood or the gay community in Fulton County that obviosly you sympathize with..
I agree about Isakson, his pathetic rubber stamp of Bush policies including the Bailout, make him as palatable as Saxby. We need new senators. We also need a Governor that will implement true limited government policies, and eliminate all parts of State government that are outside the scope of civil government. None of the candidates that have announced so far meet those criteria.
I am hoping that we have a few more announcements soon. I am fairly certain we will have a constitutionalist to vote for in 2010.
Ok. I’m new here. Someone teach me something. We all complain about our leadership and our big taxes, big bureaucracy government, but when it is time for elections, all the same people doe-si-doe to the right and fill a different spot. If we are going to get new results, we need new people. I want someone totally outside the box who thinks like a stateman and works hard to make government small, inconspicuous and fiscally responsible.
Same people, different offices. Who are the real idiots? We are. Most of these people need to just go bye-bye.
Cagle is one of the few politicians that excite me. Cagle is the only Georgia politician to heals our great states divisions. He has overwhelming support amongst fiscal and social conservatives. He appeals to the wealthy, middle class and poor. Cagle, like Reagan, will be a key player in leading the GOP to a TRUE majority party again. Newt did it in the 90′s. Cagle will do it between 2010 and 2012. He will show DC how to cut spending. He will focus on common sense solutions for education, health care, transportation, the economy as well as strengthen Georgias families. Georgia will be the benchmark to save the rest of the country…
It scares me that you just referenced Newt as a good thing.
“He will focus on common sense solutions for education,”–oh, you mean he is going to excise the great Department of Education boil on the butt of the American Dream?
If he could promise me that, I may be interested.
Um, how many poor people have you spoken to, exactly? Where did you find these poor people? How much money does a poor person make?
Your search is over Jenny. Georgia’s favorite son:
” Casey Cagle”
Reagan Republican,
You say you are “tougher” than me, and yet, you’re Chicken Little on this blog.
You’re a pussy. When you have the balls to sign your name to what you write OR come-up and introduce yourself, perhaps I’ll have respect for you.
Until that time, you’re just a wussy litle fruitcake.
Bill, that was so vague. I wish you would be more direct.
Well now – there is a nice topic for republicans to discuss – The Poor.
Perhaps it is time we open our eyes and our hearts.
Clearly the use of lewd and vulgar language is the attempt of a lazy and feeble mind to express itself forcefully –
When a man uses profanity to support an argument, it indicates that either the man or the argument is weak – probably both”
Sorry for the language, Jenny.
Peach, again, I have the integrity to post under my own name. You and RR do not. That makes your opinions worth about as much as my dog’s poop.
Um, I wasn’t complaining about the language. I was being funny.
I must confess that occasionally I use “vulgar” language, but it isn’t because I can’t think of the right word. It is because it is the perfect word to use.
But that’s just me.
Would you like to meet in the ring in a peach pundit brawl? We could raise money for a charity? I am ready if you are…. Erik can referee it at a Macon gym. Lets see what you are really made of……
RR,
Why don’t you have the balls to sign your name to what your opinion is?
How many times have you been divorced? At least once, I’d say. You are like Nindy…you have a bitterness towards accomplished women and that is exemplified by your judgment of Karen Handel’s choice of how to lead her life. No woman worth her salt would put-up with a bonehead like you…not for very long, anyway.
Well Jenny-
I hope you do not use “vulgar language” to call people names like “pussy” and ” chicken sh*t” If so – I hope you could include this in your “Favorites” – http://thesaurus.reference.com/
Bill – “Intergrity” just is NOT a word I think about when I see your name.
Cats and poultry scat are not my terms of choice. I’m satisfied to wait for the right moment to arrive to deliver the goods.
On the bright side, I’m a big wretched sinner, and since Jesus didn’t come to save the righteous, I’m in!
Words like: coarse, dirty, barbaric, base, bathetic, boorish, broad, coarse, common, crass, crude, dirty, earthy, everyday, filthy, general, gross, ignoble, indecent, inelegant, irreverent, lewd, low-born, maudlin, mawkish, meretricious, obscene, offensive, ostentatious, philistine, plebeian, profane, rabelaisian, rude, scurrile, scurrilous, smutty, sordid, specious, tasteless, tawdry, uncouth, unrefined, vile, filthy, foul, gross, nasty, profane, ribald, scatologic, scurrilous, smutty, vulgar, amative, , concupiscent, lascivious, lecherous, libidinous, prurient, etc… come to mind.
Jenny – Good to hear it!
Jesus came to save Bill but Bill thinks he is Jesus and THAT is a reall problem.
*real problem
Mmm. Nope, none of those are the ones I was thinking of. I’ve noticed that Bill focuses on female anatomy, and I tend to focus on male anatomy. Though I deliver the terms with much more pomp, circumstance and pizzazz. Maybe I’ve had more practice since I do occasionally get colorful in front of abortion mills when talking to some “men” , if I may use the term loosely.
In fact, last time I was in front of W. Wieuca, I chewed this one guy up and spit him out–quite frankly I don’t know what got into me. Even I am not generally that….well, enough said.
But it “worked” for whatever reason. He disappeared into the mill and returned a little while later with his woman in tow. She was still quite pregnant and positively glowing with joy. I’m a little sad they didn’t call me. Would have liked to meet the baby when he arrives.
You GO GIRL!
at least you had a good reason to talk like a sailor — Bill does it because he is just plain nasty. He would NEVER think to save a baby from being aborted – He is pro – baby murder.
Well, actually, to be technically correct, I think that Bill is pro-before it is a fully, thinking, feeling human with a soul, you can extinguish it.
But that is what I garnered from our last back and forth on the subject.
RR –
“Your search is over Jenny. Georgia’s favorite son:
” Casey Cagle””
Are you serious?
I just threw up in my mouth.
Jenny sounds like a Ralph Reed kind of girl.
umustbekidding:
I’m going to puke. I sound like a RALPH REED KIND OF A GIRL?
You are insane, and you have no deductive thinking skills.
Dear Obtuse, oh, I mean umustbekidding,
My point was that Bill does have a soul because he waffles around the horror of murdering an innocent human being AND he waffles around telling a woman, too bad. You are going to stay pregnant and give birth to that baby.
So by deciding that having an abortion before the baby is really a baby this in his mind somehow satisfies this seemingly unreconcilable dilemma.
Was that clear enough for you?
I was not justifying Bill’s opinion, nor was I diluting my own opinion. I believe that justice dictates murderers within the medical community should be tried and given the penalty for premeditated murder.
Bill is uneducated concerning prenatal development. Or he was educated by individuals who were intentionally deceptive.
If Bill’s opinion is political, then he will never change his position. If Bill’s opinion is moral and consistent with the principles of life and liberty as set forth in the Declaration of Independence, he will change his position.
Ok. I’ve calmed down now. You really ticked me off with the Ralph Reed thing. Please try not to do that again. Even female dog would be preferable.
