Concerned Black Clergy is protesting an application by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department to deputize members of the department to implement portions of a federal immigration law.

Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway has applied for his department to receive training from the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Once trained, deputies would have access to federal immigration databases and would be able to begin deportation proceedings for illegal immigrants.

Concerned Black Clergy says the program leads to racial profiling and disruption of families.

The clear message from Concerned Black Clergy is that they (1) do not recognize federal law unless it suits their own ends and (2) don’t understand that this program is going to be used with those arrested for crimes at the Gwinnett County Detention Center. These simpletons believe that simply by saying “racial profiling” that that makes it so. ‘Fraid not.

I’m not entirely comfortable playing into the leftist’s hands in attacking a black group and tying it in with the illegal immigration debate. Not to mention I’m too sensitive to criticize black organizations. In certain cases I would tend to see what other black organizations think about an issue. With this matter, what does the HGLBC think? (That’s the Happy-Go-Lucky Black Clergy)
