Jim Powell for PSC

I am grateful for this opportunity to address Peach Pundit readers because Tuesday’s runoff election for the Public Service Commission is more important than many Georgians realize.

First, I must respond to my opponent’s false attacks on my experience at the U.S. Department of Energy. To say that gas prices rose to $4 a gallon under my watch is both ludicrous and an outright lie. I’m sure Bubba knows better, but he is desperate to do anything to deflect attention from his own previous record on the PSC, the record that got him voted off the commission in 2002.

Georgia voters won’t be fooled by Bubba McDonald’s last-minute attacks and misrepresentations. They remember his secret deals with Georgia Power on rate cases, his behind-closed-doors management of public policy and his absolute disregard for the interests of Georgia consumers. They know the utility company executives and corporate lobbyists are financing his campaign once again because Bubba never saw a rate increase he didn’t like.

The PSC often makes decisions that have a bigger impact on all Georgians than some votes taken by the state legislature.  We all pay the three bills that are regulated by the PSC: electricity, natural gas and telephone.

We are in the midst of an energy and economic crisis. We need PSC commissioners who will ensure we strike an appropriate balance between what the profit the utilities earn and what the consumers pay.

I want to thank the voters for their tremendous support on November 4th and ask you to go back to the polls and help me to another first-place finish in this runoff. I am honored to have the endorsement of some great Georgians like President Jimmy Carter, as well as the current Public Service Commissioner Angela Speir, who happens to be a Republican.

This election transcends partisan politics, and this is no time for another career politician to return to the PSC. This vote is about which of us is the most qualified to serve, and which of us is committed to standing up for Georgia consumers these next six years.

This is my first candidacy for elected office, but I am proud to offer my 20 years’ experience in shaping energy policy at the state, regional and federal levels. I want to thank you for all your courtesies on the campaign trail, and I ask for your support again on December 2nd.

Sincerely yours,
Jim Powell

Not even Martin is liberal enough to be bragging about a Jimmy Carter endorsement.

2nd verse.

same as the 1st.

Your appearance here is much appreciated, as much as the other candidate. We can only hope this is a trend that will extend into the future and become and integral part of the Great American Debate.

Now.

Please stop wasting space/breath/my time counter-attacking. Our Soon to be President Obama did not counter attack. He stayed above the fray, focused on message, and as a result US Citizens heaped all kinds of WIN upon his campaign.

You spent half your space talking about your opponent. What about you?

Being as how I may be only one of a few fiscal conservatives that did not do a toe curl when you crowed your endorsement from Pres. Carter, I am not sure why I should vote for you either.

Seems I am more inclined to vote against your opponent than for you.

I did like the part about having no experience. The type of experience your opponent has is not the type of experience we need.

(whispers to producer’s box) CAN WE GET THAT LIBERTARIAN GUY BACK UP HERE AGAIN?

thanks and , er gods bless…you know…etc.

Note to group: after Obama the One’s™ stellar campaigns, does this one not look like something that jumped outta the way of the General Lee™?

The important thing about Mr. Powell’s endorsements is his ability to appeal to a wide political spectrum. There is a vast difference between President Carter and Republican Commissioner Speir (Republican Pam Davidson as well has endorsed Mr. Powell). This really shows Mr. Powell’s dedication to reach across party lines.

As far as the Christian Alliance mailer, being a Christian is shown in actions and not just words. Here lies another difference between Mr. McDonald and Mr. Powell. McDonald represents big talk and Mr. Powell represents big action.

It’s time for a professional on the Public Service Commission — It’s time for Jim Powell!

Vote Powell on December 2nd.

Mr. Powell,

Ga needs additional electric generation capacity now. What in your opinion is the best specific solution to meeting our future power generating needs?

Just for the record, watch Tuesday night’s results. Regardless of who wins the election, pay attention to Cobb County and Towns County. Cobb County is where Mr. Powell took his homestead exemption last year, and Towns County is where he now “legally” resides so he can run in the Northern District for PSC. The counties that know Powell best (Cobb and Towns) will give McDonald some of his better victories on Tuesday.

“There is a vast difference between President Carter and Republican Commissioner Speir (Republican Pam Davidson as well has endorsed Mr. Powell).”

Speir and Davidson are both RINO’s. Davidson was a hardcore democrat until about 3 days before PSC qualification. Angela and Jimmy have far more similarities than differences.

and Bubba’s not a RINO?

Mountain Republican December 1, 2008 at 9:31 am

Proudcon-
You mailed it on the head-Powell has anything but a wide political spectrum. Angela Speir’s endorsement is simply bad blood because of her race against McDonald six years ago. Mrs./Ms./Miss Pam Davidson was a Democrat who ran for state representative several years ago. The first time anyone even suspected that Pam might be a Republican was when she qualified to run for PSC. As for Jimmy Carter, as Lewis Grizzard would say, “Damn, brother, I don’t believe I would have told that one…”.

Mr. Powell has not built a broad coalition.

I think Bubba, and so many traditional GA democrats, were more DINOs. Versus today in GA, which is still a red state, where you got a bunch of folks who are Democrats pretending to be Republicans.
