We’ll see this come back

The Georgia Supreme Court has weighed in.

Georgia’s top court ruled Monday that a provision in Georgia’s strict new sex offender law is unconstitutional because it fails to tell homeless offenders how they can comply with the law.

The law is designed to keep sex offenders away from children by monitoring how close they live to schools, parks and other spots where kids gather. But critics say it unfairly subjects homeless offenders to a life sentence if they fail to register a home address.

This will make Republicans happy.

This is another display of why it is important to elect conservative judges to the state supreme court.

Yes, God forbid the whoring drunkards under the Gold Dome be required to actually write laws that are consistent and make sense.

Gawd, I’m turning into Bill Simon…..

I hate to leap to the defense of the sex offender constituency, but I’m pretty tired of hearing about this issue. It gets beat to death because it’s a rare issue where the Democrats can try to out-Republican the Republicans without pissing off any of their own special interest groups. The political debate looks something like this:

Purdue: I want a bill saying that sex offenders can’t live within 100 ft of a school.

Taylor: Oh yeah? Well **I** want a bill saying sex offenders can’t live within 300 ft of a school.

Cox: Oh yeah? Well **I** want a bill saying sex offenders can’t live within 300 ft of a school or a bus stop.

Cagle: Oh yeah? Well **I** want a bill saying sex offenders can’t live within 100 miles of a stop sign.

Everybody knows that this crap will get reined in by the courts anyway… so they’re free to posture as tough as they like, and fake outrage when it goes to court. My wallet contains a bright and shiny Federalist Society membership card, but even I still gag when I hear politicians babbling about “activist judges”.

So, I can get elected by saying:

“We should feed the sex offenders to large carnivorous animals in the Georgia Dome and give out free tickets to the citizens of Georgia!”
