GEORGIA VETERANS SHOW SUPPORT FOR SAXBY

‘Vets for Freedom’ Endorse Saxby’s Re-Election

ATLANTA—U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) today was joined by over 70 Georgia veterans for the announcement of the ‘Veterans for Saxby’ coalition. Veterans from all over the state have pledged to endorse Senator Chambliss in the Senate race this year. Also today, the national organization Vets for Freedom announced their endorsement of Saxby’s re-election. Vets for Freedom is a non-partisan organization established by combat veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and is the largest of its kind in America.

“I am honored to be supported by so many of our nation’s heroes,” Saxby said. “The brave men and women who make up our armed forces and those who have served in past conflicts deserve our support and our thanks. I am humbled and grateful to have their endorsement, and I will continue to fight for them in Washington.”

Saxby has worked on behalf of veterans and our military service members throughout his entire political career. He has traveled to Iraq six times and understands the challenges our men and women in uniform face. In 2007, Saxby introduced the Wounded Warrior Act to ensure the medical needs of wounded servicemen and women are properly met and that bureaucracy does not interfere with their progress. Components of the bill were included in the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act that was signed into law. Working with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Saxby pushed to get new community based outpatient clinics in Georgia. Saxby is a cosponsor of the Enhancement of Recruitment, Retention and Readjustment Through Education Act to expand the Montgomery G.I. Bill to enhance education benefits for veterans and service members. He cosponsored legislation to combat homelessness among veterans and introduced legislation to enhance oversight of housing privatization projects. And to ensure that our fallen heroes receive the honorable burial they have earned, Saxby introduced legislation prohibiting protestors from disturbing military funerals.

Saxby is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Co-Chairman of the Senate Reserve Caucus, member of the National Guard Caucus, recipient of the Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award by the Military Officers Association of America, and recipient of the Harry S. Truman Award for Distinguished Service in Support of National Defense.

The event today was hosted by Tommy Clack, Coordinator and Captain, U.S. Army Retired; John Sours, Veterans for McCain State Chairman, former Chairman of Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association; Ted Daywalt, CEO VetJobs, Captain, U.S. Navy Retired; and Tim Kinnan, Lieutenant General, U.S. Air Force Retired.

Attending today’s coalition kickoff were veterans who had served in the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserves. Organizations represented included Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, Reserve Officers Association, Military Officers Association of America, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance, Navy League, Sea Cadets, Air Force Sergeants Association, Navy Reserve Association, and the Association of the U. S. Army. Veterans from local church organizations also attended today’s kickoff as well as members of such groups as VetJobs.

Saxby is seeking re-election for his second term in the United States Senate. His re-election has been endorsed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 180 Georgia County Commissioners, 190 city officials, 239 law enforcement officers, over 100 Georgia Democrats, and now Georgia Veterans. He is the Ranking Republican Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Rules Committee. Senator Chambliss previously represented Georgia’s 8th congressional district for four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives where he served as the Chairman of the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security.

It's curious that Jim Martin keeps trying to attack Saxby on Veterans issues. If I'm not mistaken, this award from the National Guard means that Saxby has now been awarded the highest award a civilian can earn from each branch of our Armed Forces.

I also saw another release today stating that Saxby had been endorsed by Vets for Freedom.

Facts speak louder than political smear attacks.
