It seems infighting among certain Dougherty County School Board members has stirred unrest among state Democratic Party members as well.
Andre Walker, a Georgia Democratic Party committee member representing Fulton County, sent an e-mail Tuesday to the party’s executive committee members demanding an explanation as to why Richard Anson was placed on the Democratic ballot without going through the Dougherty County Democratic chair, Constance Burkes.
The Dougherty County Board of Registration and Elections office confirmed that Democratic Party Chair Jane Kidd sent a fax Aug. 6 on behalf of the executive committee requesting that Anson replace Judith Corbett on the ballot after she withdrew from the race.
“Basically, the issue is violating local control over local issues,” Walker said. “It’s a matter of disrespect for the state party not to even pick up the phone and call Dr. Burkes.”
Burkes said Wednesday that the state party had still not contacted the local party concerning Anson’s placement on the ticket.
