Watch your wallet in Madison

At least $80,000 is missing from the Madison County Board of Commissioners Office and authorities expect to arrest someone in connection with the investigation.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents will interview employees for the next two weeks to try and determine how the money was taken, said Jim Fullington, special agent in charge of the GBI’s Athens office.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate about two weeks after Deputy Clerk Melinda Spence was arrested April 29 and charged with one count of felony theft by taking for allegedly stealing $1,700 from the county’s senior center fund, Fullington said.
