Bizarre goings on in race for Troup County Sheriff

Time to again crack open O.C.G.A. Title 21, ya’ll!

Just read the whole story in today’s LaGrange Daily News. Independent Candidate for Sheriff Larry Harris keeps having trouble understanding the law. Evidently he thinks his inability to understand the Official Code of Georgia is a qualifier for the office he seeks.

thankfully i am not a lawyer–but it sounds to me like the guy should be able to run–attempting to qualify is clearly not the same a qualifying–right???

    dr J,

The story is so poorly written it is hard to understand any of the facts. It does look like the code states that a candidate must have actually qualified, but the article does not clearly state whether he was qualified or not.

In any event, with so many races (nearly all) have uncontested races, the state needs to loosen the ballot access laws, not strictly enforce them.

Uh…it’s Troup, not Troop. But it sounds like they may need “troopers” there soon. Or would those be troupers?

Sorry, I have the same word processor that Rep. Stephenson has…(grin). Mistake fixed.
