    Interesting piece…thanks for the post. A few years ago 20/20 did do a piece about how good the poor in America have it. They interviewed people receiving government assistance and almost all of them admitted to having a car, TV, VCR, Cable, Stereo, phone service, decent clothes, etc.

    I would love to see some 2008 numbers in this. Over a dozen houses have recently gone up for sale in my neighborhood, with an “unadvertised” price of “seeking best offer.” I see signs everyday that say “Must sell soon – seeking best offer – “, so I am finding it very difficult to believe that all is well.

    Even more evidence can be found while looking for a new job. At least 25% of the ADVERTISED positions that I have pursued were eventually pulled off the table due to the uncertain economic time we are in. Some delayed to be reviewed in the summer and others put off until 2009.
