Sheriff Candidates Hammer Whitfield County Sheriff On Illegal Immigration Program

As The Daily Citizen of Dalton, Georgia, reports:

People should be “screaming” about the uninstalled computer equipment for the 287(g) program at the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, said both Republican candidates for sheriff at a GOP forum Monday night. Six Whitfield County jailers trained on the program in January. The federal program gives jailers access to information from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) databases to help identify illegal aliens. But the computer equipment for the program has not yet been installed.

I don’t know if they can talk all the wives and kids of the sherrif’s department to go out of town, giving them nothing better to do…

Hey at least the guy started the process. In cherokee county even when asked to use the program by the county commission the Sheriff Garrison said “uh no I think I will create my own system”.

Oh and the magnatometers sat unplugged and unused in the Cherokee Court house for a good 4 or 5 years before they got fired up. Not even 9/11 got them turned on for more then a day or two. It took Brian Nichols to finally get them plugged in. And when they finally did plug them in they were out of date and needed to be upgraded.
