Wonder how he thinks he will raise enough revenue to run Georgia with the 25% increase in financing costs from killing exempt bonds, the 30% FairTax that the state will have to pay on its purchases as a taxable entity, and the 30% Fairtax it would have to pay on Federally- mandated medicare?
Shoot, the Governor and legislature cannot find the backbone to deal with the $20 billion existing unfunded health care liability without making it 30% bigger, because that tax applies to those future services.
This is why we need more Allen Buckley’s in office.
Paul Shuford // May 17, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Why do you continue to quote the Fair Tax rate exclusively, instead of inclusively, like the current income tax is quoted? When you do that, anyone who is truly interested in the issue (like me) simply chalks you up for a fool that is trying to push their agenda.
IndyInjun // May 17, 2008 at 4:40 pm
If it is sold as a sales tax, its gonna be quoted as a sales tax.
Suit yourself, it is a tax of 30 cents per dollar of price for the good or service offered for sale.
You nitpick about the rate and offer no answer on how it would not explode the cost of local and state government. As governor, Oxendine would have to answer it.

The Fair Tax is never going to happen. Ever. Anyone saying otherwise is off their rocker.
Therefore, there is no need to waste your time debating it.
IndyInjun // May 17, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Thanks, Insider, you are correct.
Anyone campaigning on it needs to be asked if they consider $250 billion in forgiveness of back taxes to corporations coupled with a 30 cents on the dollar tax on employee health insurance premiums “FAIR.”
Campaigning on something that is so deceptive is proof-positive of how corrupt politics has become.

“The Fair Tax is never going to happen. Ever. Anyone saying otherwise is off their rocker.”
Off their rocker? Were the Germans off their rocker when they bombed Pearl Harbor?
IndyInjun // May 17, 2008 at 7:25 pm
“Were the Germans off their rocker when they bombed Pearl Harbor?”
Must not have been, for the Japanese got the blame.
Germany’s declaration of war on the USA after Pearl Harbor probably qualified as being “off their rocker.”
Now if the public ever finds out that the Fair???tax is another sneak attack, the perps will be knocked off their rockers.
Chris Farris // May 17, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Germany was never really on their rocker from 1933-1945.
And the Ox is just pandering to the Fair Tax cult. He pretty much lost any support he had from me.

Sigh… if it weren’t for bloggers and YR’s (and maybe David Shafer on a good day), I’d have no ties to the GOP at all. Just once it would be cool to see a Georgia elected official or candidate have the nerve to say, “Yeah, the FairTax is a scam… they’re just pandering to you because they think you’re too stupid to know any better.”
Of course, I can’t gripe too much… even Bob Barr is pouring the FairTax kool-aid in the Libertarian race. I’m generally proud to be a Georgia native, but the FairTax is the crazy grandma locked in my basement.

Steve,
If you were a properly raised GA boy, you would let grandma sit on the front porch where she belongs.

…and thus, my central point:
FREE GOPeach!
IndyInjun // May 17, 2008 at 8:42 pm
“FREE GOPeach!”
Nah, she’s a FairTaxer.
dudelove // May 17, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I thought Ox announced his candidacy for Governor a few weeks ago.

Wonder how he thinks he will raise enough revenue …
aaf flaak
dorian // May 18, 2008 at 6:13 am
I’ll bite. What happened to GOPeach?
albert // May 18, 2008 at 7:18 am
Some blog nazi didn’t like her rambling posts so they booted her. The Thought Police don’t like rambling posts just mindless posts.

It is a shrewd move by OX because like Huckabee he will get free PR from Neal on the number one station in Atlanta metro. Also sheep like Paul Shuford will not ask tough questions about the economics because they have faith in Neal the lawyer to think for them.
I do like and respect Ox but anyone who understands economics can see the issues with the Fair Tax. And Indy has done a great job educating people on the PP.
As I said many times I support a hybrid between the Fair Tax and Flat Tax. Yet what bothers me about this issue is it is a distraction on dealing with the spending issue and falling dollar.
And it is true that we must deal with SS and Medicare to balance the budget. Yet both can be fixed with minor adjustments. And the concept that do not worry about pork bills like the latest farm bill, Highway bill….. because it is only a small part of the problem is irresponsible!
Interest on the national debt is one of the highest expenses we have.
GOPeach // May 19, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Yeah! What happened?
GOPeach // May 19, 2008 at 1:42 pm
FREE at last - FREE at last!
Thank GOD ALMIGHTY I am FREE at LAST!
Romegaguy // May 19, 2008 at 1:45 pm
You need to misspell some words and add some exclamation points…
While you are here Peachy, how did you feel about Sue Everhart comparing McCain to Jesus over the weekend?
GOPeach // May 19, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Oh… and Bill… It was JAPAN! Duh!
rugby fan // May 19, 2008 at 1:51 pm
NO! Please NO!
And Peach, it was Germany. Then again, you think Paul Broun was sworn in.
GOP Girl // May 19, 2008 at 7:55 pm
The Ox had the best hospitality suite by far. Some kid taught me boxing on Wii.
Bill Simon // May 19, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Actually, Albert, you’re misinformed about GOPeach. When people start engaging in real libel, that tends to get them kicked-out of a lot of places.
And, no, I’m not going to go over it here.
Chris Farris // May 20, 2008 at 6:44 am
Oh Gawd, she’s back.
/me hides the women and children.
shep1975 // May 20, 2008 at 8:15 am
I didn’t like Ox’s suite. BJ Van Gundy beat me at Wii bowling, then tennis, then golf. Yeah, the Wii he has at home is for his children…riiiiiight.
Best looking campaign t-shirts though. I’d wear them for more than just cutting the yard.
