High Drama In Hazlehurst

Well, maybe not. It appears that the Municipal Court Judge and Mayor of Hazlehurst, located in Jeff Davis County, are having a bit of a tiff in the style of the City of Lithonia. From the Jeff Davis Ledger:

The controversy erupted last Thursday when Judge Smith conducted his monthly municipal court in a courtroom virtually devoid of defendants and court personnel. Neither Hazlehurst Police Chief Steve Land, who normally serves as the municipal court prosecutor, nor court clerk Deborah Kornegay, a Police Department dispatcher, were present, apparently under orders from Mayor Stone not to attend the court session. And defendants who arrived for their scheduled appearances in court were turned away outside by Chief Land who distributed flyers announcing that the next court date would be May 29.

Interesting that the Police Chief is ALSO the City Solicitor in that fine city…

I’ve always wondered about the Police Chief being the Chief and the City Solicitor.

Also, I’ve always wondered about the Municipal Judge being the City Attorney.

I think what Mayor Stone tried to achieve was the correct thing. He just has the “BALLS” to confront the “good ole boyz network.”

The way I see it is the Chief, the Investigator, and the crooked Judge ought to be sent home for good. If you’ll notice, they got them a little clan group going. When the Mayor tried to break up the “party”, they started showing out.

Just about whole world knows that certain ones in Hazlehurst, GA are nothing but a bunch of crooks. It all about the almight dollar coming to them and their self interests. It all about them, the rest of the citizens are suppose to abide by another set of rules.

I stand behind the Hazlehurst, GA Mayor 100 percent. I hope he cleans the house, because it needs it. One of these days, I hope the Judge gets just exactly what he deserves. His day is coming, soon than one may think. I think by now the citizens of Hazlehurst, GA KNOWS he’s a damn fool and him being a judge makes it very dangerous for our judicial system. He thought he’d bully the Mayor, but the Mayor did not move one damn inch.

THE CITIZENS OF HAZLEHURST, GA AND JEFF DAVIS COUNTY NEED TO GET BEHIND THE MAYOR AND GET RID OF THOSE SELF SERVING CROOKS AND SELF INTERSTS PEOPLE. WE NEED TO HELP THE MAYOR BREAK UP THAT “PLAYHOUSE” AND THE “CLAN.” WE NEED SOMEONE WHO HAS JEFF DAVIS AND HAZLEHURST BESTS INTERESTS AT HEART. MAYOR STONE IS TRYING VERY HARD, WE NEED TO HELP!!!

The main problem in Hazlehurst right now is the mayor. He is the one living by another set of rules than the rest of us. Had any other citizen been in contempt of court there is no way that we would have gotten away with no jail time or fine being paid. If he is really doing the right thing then why did the council vote against the firings? I do believe that the voice of the people can and will be heard if we all just get involved in the city council meetings. If we do not like how things are being ran we have the most powerful tool of all…the right to cast our vote for the man or woman that will represent what we want. Some people would rather run their mouth in private than to speak up at a town meeting. I challenge anyone that doesn’t like the way things are going to attend the meetings, speak your mind, and work for a change.
