Savannah’s “Big Dig” Nearing Completion

by Rogue109 on April 20, 2008

At least that’s what I’ve called it for these many months every time I saw that enormous crater where the Bryan Street Parking Deck (adjacent to Market Square in downtown Savannah) used to be. Now, though, the new underground parking deck is scheduled to be open within two months, according to The Savannah Morning News.

The project, when complete in about a year, is going to restore Ellis Square to that location as an open space for markets and public gatherings. If you didn’t know, Ellis Square was one of the first four established by General James Oglethorpe along with Johnson, Wright and St. James (now Telfair) Squares.
