Carter should not go for obvious reasons without coordination from the pentagon. Yet Bush pushing his nation building democracy on the Middle East is the problem. Unless you can respect minority rights democracy is mob rules!
All we are doing is throwing fuel on a fire. Reagan was right with the containment strategy after his problems in Beirut.

Many rule of law folks holler at the prospect of the US surrendering any sovereignty whatsoever international bodies, yet are silent at extrajudicial actions by US authorities circumventing US law on foreign soil.
