Push To Cut Fed Funding For Carter Center

April 17th, 2008 by Rogue109 · 12 Comments

With the highly publicized meetings of late between Jimmy Carter and the terrorist group Hamas, Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) is pushing legislation that would prohibit the federal government from giving money to the Carter Center here in Atlanta.

The bill, H.R. 5816, is also known as Coordinated American Response to Extreme Radicals Act (CARTER Act). The Center has received at least $19 million in federal taxpayer funds since 2001.

Have any of you been to the Carter Center lately?

I have, look at the eaves and interior, they are rotting down.

For 19 mil what do you have? A replica for the anti-Semite.

Great idea but the Dem congress will never allow it. Too bad. Carter always was and continues to be a state and a national embarrassment.

Is there some Government Agency that comes up with these silly acronyms for bills? Can we cut their funding?

  • MediaGuyAtl // Apr 17, 2008 at 2:58 pm

Hey Chris! The Agency is CONGRESS!
    Congressman
    Obligated to
    Nancy her
    Gibberish &
    Rampant

Proofreader works for the AJC, Sending should be Spending. I apologize for the error.

Then we should not just cut their funding, but banish all of them and their minions to the moon - without space suits.

Shelia Jackson Lee will be fine - the inside of her head has the same air-pressure as the surface of the moon. The rest will go pop, and it will be joyous.

Broun will be grateful he was never sworn in and thus saved from that fate.

Am I the only one that is somewhat annoyed that a Congressman from another state is proposing this?

  • MediaGuyAtl // Apr 17, 2008 at 3:31 pm

If Congress cuts the funding, which will never happen, Jimmy can always get a handout from his friend Mr. Chavez in Venezuela. Didn’t Jimmy get any money for winning the Nobel? He could use his winnings to treat the “rotting eaves”. Maybe Bernie and Home Depot can help with some paint and 2×4’s?

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems that regardless of one’s personal feelings for Carter the man, the work of the Carter Center is worth funding (and has little to do with that building on Freedom Parkway). The Carter Center has done tremendous work eradicating tracoma (a leading cause of blindness in several developing countries), treating malaria, addressing mental health problems, etc. etc.

My thought is cut federal funding for all presidential libraries. Maybe that is something that the anti-pork Rep Kingston could work on…

    Megan,
You bring up a great point. The Carter Center does a lot for those who are afflicted with diseases in third world countries but when you get in bed with a terrorist one needs to expect some criticism. The only thing I remember about Jimmy’s term in office is waiting in long lines for gas, even though it was only .75 a gallon in those days…
