Meanwhile . . .

Businesses are very unhappy with the Senate failing to pass a constitutional amendment to deal with transportation and Jerry Keen got lots of free meals from lobbyists.

“Being in leadership and being majority leader, there are a lot of folks that would like to talk to him,” said Chase Daughtrey, Keen’s deputy chief of staff.

Keen’s staff sets his dinner schedule with farm, energy, communications or other interests, which account for some of the meals. But since the majority leader’s office is responsible for feeding staffers, state troopers, doorkeepers and others, some of the meals go to those confined to the Capitol while the House is in session, Daughtrey said.

  1. Donkey Kong says:

I join the business community in being furious about the incapacitated state of our elected officials on any issue of relative importance.

  2. Gag Halfrunt says:

Deputy chief of staff? What is Jerry Keen doing with a chief of staff? Or even a staff? Sounds like a shakedown operation to me, with all the contributions in food. We should all send the Senate a fruit basket.

The business community in this state isn’t too bright. They lavish Keen with food. Keen has a strict policy (enforced by Keen’s assistant deputy chief of protocol) against talking with his mouth full. Based upon the number of meals Keen received from lobbyists, his mouth is always full. Since he can’t talk to lobbyists because his mouth is full they never got a constitutional amendment.

Apparently NFIB misunderstood “gwummphh rumpa ghssshhhh” for “it’s on the calendar” when in fact it means “pass the rolls and butter.”

  3. Dave Bearse says:

There you have it. Somethings got to be done now to keep the dinners coming and fund general election campaigns. The 4 million metro Atlantans that have been complaining about congestion be damned.

  4. Chris says:

The lobbyists obviously need to up the arsenic levels.

Where are my bloody purges! I was promised bloody purges and I’m not leaving till I get some!
