Global warming is sending frost.

The lows won’t set any records, but unseasonably cool temperatures predicted for Athens this week are sending a chill up the spines of area farmers and gardeners who remember the havoc caused by last year’s late freeze.

Overnight lows this morning were expected to reach the mid-30s, followed by 33 degrees tonight, said Stephen Konarik, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office at Peachtree City. Konarik doesn’t expect the Athens area to have frost, but advises concerned gardeners to play it safe.
