It’s Cross Over Day

Here’s a look at some of the odd and/or controversial bills pending. Here is perhaps the dumbest piece of legislation to ever make it to the light of day since the Freedom Fries crap went down:

Senate Resolution 809, sponsored by Sen. Emanuel Jones, D-Ellenwood, would urge Congress, the auto industry and federal agencies to refer to seat belt and air bags as “life belts” and “life bags.” The bill doesn’t say how the flotation devices currently called life belts would be renamed.

Good luck with that. Pfffft.

Senate Bill 335, sponsored by Sen. John Douglas, R-Social Circle, would forbid government agencies from giving employment preference to any employee who speaks or learns to speak a foreign language.

Talk about dumbing down people and rewarding ignorance.

What next, forbid government agencies from giving employment preference to any employee who has a college degree?

What about employees who are stationed overseas at our economic development missions?

Talk about a dumb bill meant to appeal to the redneck masses.

Doug, the bill does exempt certain positions which require foreign language skills such as translators, etc. But it’s still a bill that rewards the uneducated by not rewarding the educated.
