Sabotaging the Veepstakes

Jim Galloway has a report on all the GOP created tax increases and tax swaps going on this year. He does not mention it, but I would say these pieces of legislation will have a lot to do with qualifying or disqualifying Sonny Perdue to be on the short list for Veep — depending on whether or not he signs them into law, should they pass.

Kudos to the House for kiling the tobacco tax increase, by the way.

Sonny “The Banjo Player in Deliverance” Perdue is not on anybody’s short list for VP. You guys are relentless in keeping this alive. I wish the politicians worked as hard at lowering our taxes as they do promoting the inbred idiot for Veep.

In the spirit of keeping this non-story alive, what is the constitutional process to replace Sonny should he decide to move to the Naval observatory and spend 4 years attending funerals of foreign dignitaries?

If the Lt. Governor automatically becomes Gov for the remaining term, that would seem to put Isakson on track for a re-election bid to the Senate and freeze out all the other players that are currently lining up to run for the open spot in 2010.

This is a total non-story. Sonny rightly should not and will not be considered seriously as a VP candidate. McCain has enough problems with conservatives without adding a former Democrat to the ticket.

Of course, there’s always Zell Miller.

Can someone please post a link to ANY discussion, ANYWHERE in the country outside of Georgia, that seriously discusses Sonny Perdue as a VP candidate? This occasionally-reoccurring story is just local yokels babbling… at least the FairTax nonsense garners some support outside of Linder’s district.

Sonny has pretty much every shortcoming that Mike Huckabee has, except that at least the Huckster is ethical enough not to manage personal assets outside of a blind trust while governing a state. The only real positive that Perdue can hang his hat on is that the Georgia GOP did better than the national GOP in the 2006 off-year election. However, that has a lot more to do with Georgia having the nation’s most incompetent Democratic state party than it does with GOP strength… our state GOP is pretty corrupt and dysfunctional to put it mildly.

I have no doubt that McCain will pick a VP with “conservative credentials” (i.e. someone who hates Democrats more), to help with turnout among the partisan base. However, I’m not convinced that this will be a southerner… and I’d bet my first-born that it won’t be Sonny Perdue.

Icarus, the Lt. Gov only becomes Governor until a special election can be held.

i have read what i assume is the pertinent part of the ga constitution about 4 times now and am not sure i agree w/ the above statement

of course i am so confident sonny will not end up on the ticket that i will offer free root canals to everyone here i it were to actually happen…

If Barack Obama is the Democratic Nominee, then I hope Sonny is McCain’s choice. Barack will beat McCain (unfortunately) and we’ll be rid of our aww-shucks Governor once and for all (fortunately).

That is, unless the GA Constitution permits him to simultaneously be our Governor while running for VP…

based on my reading of the ga constitution this a.m. sonny can indeed run for v.p. and retain his guv office–several offices are specifically mentioned as those that you are deemed to have vacated when you qualify for another office–and prez and v.p. are not on that list.

………..will we have to actually “need” a root canal, or can we just go ahead and get some in “advance??????

After the November elections and we have a new DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT, the MCCAINPERDUE website’s name can be changed to INDICTPERDUE. Newly appointed U. S. Attorneys in the Middle and Northern Districts will be eager to investigate and indict our crooked Governor for his corrupt activities. I figure 10 years in a Federal prison should be about right for the pie-faced idiot.

  12. Gag Halfrunt says:

Fishtail, the real irony is that Sonny will appeal any conviction to the US Supreme Court where Bush appointees will form the majority that finally gets its way and throws out the federal insanity defense. OK, so they have to sacrifice Perdue for the greater good but we’ll finally have a lengthy decision finding a legitimate state purpose locating “Go Fish” in Bonaire.
