Your runway is getting extended so now you can fly from Athens to the West Coast nonstop.
The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a long-awaited 600-foot runway extension at Athens-Ben Epps Airport.
The $10 million extension of the eastern end of the airport’s east-west runway will improve safety and allow corporate and regional jets to take off and land fully loaded, airport Manager Tim Beggerly said. The runway’s 5,500-foot length is only long enough to handle lighter medium-size jets, and they can’t fly to the West Coast from Athens without stopping to refuel, he said.
Maybe Athens should now take this into account with its whole new sloganeering campaign:
“Get Drunk. Score. Get High. Do It All in Athens.”
