So, whatcha think Georgia fans?

Adams wants playoffs.

The president of the University of Georgia is calling for an eight-team playoff system for college football’s top division, saying the Bowl Championship Series — which left Georgia out of its championship game — has become a “beauty contest largely stage-managed by the networks.”

In a public statement and a letter to NCAA president Myles Brand, Georgia president Michael F. Adams, who is also chairman of the NCAA executive committee, called for an eight-team playoff to decide the national championship, with the opening rounds to be played in the four major BCS bowl games. He proposed the change be made as soon as the contracts that govern the BCS expire.

    Horrible idea.

I don’t like putting anything in the hands of the NCAA, especially an issue such as revenue sharing from these game.

Not too mention the fact that anything proposed by the a$$clown Adams raises a suspicious eyeball for me.

I think it’s the single best thing Mike Adams has done in his tenure at UGA.

The game last night proved that often the only way to have the two best teams play each other is playoffs because you can actually end up with an all-SEC title game or at least one that is competitive. The last championship game that was remotely interesting to watch was USC-Texas in ‘05. Ohio State has been blown out two years running in what solidifies the gap between SEC football and the rest.

If Adams is for it, it makes me want to be against it.

Why is the talent gap a bad thing?

It does nothing but help the SEC…in recruiting….in future TV deals…in endorsements.

Why would the SEC agree to a playoff system that would dilute it’s numerous late season rivalry games? Also the 4 major bowls are never going to agree to be Quarterfinal hosts.

My guess is that if the playoff model becomes reality the 4 major bowls will be given the option of becoming Quarterfinal hosts or becoming a memory.

    Here’s a non-ESPN critique of Adams.

    I mean, of Adams proposal.

    No, really, it’s about Adams.

The Dawgs got three first place votes. They won the National Title when they whipped Hawaii. LSU wouldn’t stand a chance against Georgia. Northside of Warner Robins could beat Ohio State.

The problem is that Georgia was not even able to win their conference division.

For once, I agree with Adams. In fact, I think it is the first time I’ve ever agreed with anything he’s said. Go Dawgs!

ESPN has a quick look at the projected pre-season top 25. As much as it hurts me (in fact, I threw up a little bit): UGA is pre-season #1 (ick!). My Fighting Gators of Florida are ranked #3. Should be quite a cocktail party!

Sorry, can’t seem to paste a link.

    Icarus,

So many of you wussies are still whining about Adams and Dooley. It truly is comical…and, quite sad at the same time.

  • Jas // Jan 9, 2008 at 8:40 am

Bill - This will be a banner year for Tech jealousy. A 4-8 rebuilding season while the Dawgs compete for a National Title should provide us with plenty of comedy from the ginger kids from the NATS

Adams plagarizing the playoff idea as his own. Nice.

Remember you can spell National Champions without UGA

  • Bill Simon // Jan 9, 2008 at 10:20 am

    Jas,

Unlike you UGA cult members, the lives of Tech grads do NOT revolve around our college football program.

SO, we don’t get “jealous” of cults like the UGA one…we laugh our asses off at how people who graduated from UGA plan their entire lives around what’s good for their alma mater’s football team, and put their own lives second…just like any other cult out there.

  • Obis_Sister // Jan 9, 2008 at 1:02 pm

What???? Tech has a football program? Really? When did that happen?

  • Icarus // Jan 9, 2008 at 10:48 pm

    Yo! Simon!

We beat you at basketball tonight.

    BASKETBALL!

We suck at basketball. Yet you haven’t beaten us in Athens since the Ford administration.

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

The difference between a Georgia Rebuilding season and Georgia Tech winning season is:

    Georgia: 9-4
    Tech: 4-8.

The difference between a Georgia student and a Georgia Tech student is:

    Georgia: Lack of a brain
    Tech: Brains.
