Hopefully his job is safe

Brad Chambers, Sandy Springs’ parks director, is headed to Iraq:

Brad Chambers, the city’s recreation and parks director for nearly a year, has been called to serve in the war in Iraq.

Chambers, 52, is a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He said he was told last week his skills as an intelligence officer are needed. He’ll serve a 12-month tour of duty in Iraq.

Chambers, who has a grown daughter, said the notification wasn’t entirely a surprise.

He had been activated and served several months at the U.S. emergency command headquarters in Germany, following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Given the ongoing war, he said he knew it was a possibility.

“Anybody who has not been recalled, activated, has that in the back of their head,” he said. “Sooner or later, you’re probably going to go.”

No word from Rep. Wendell Willard or Rusty Paul as to whether they are going to try to have him fired or not.

All joking aside, I wish Mr. Chambers as well as the rest of our soldiers.

I just heard at Doraville city council meeting that Mr. Willard is still trying to clean up the mess he made in Doraville, trying to legally fight the recall of Councilmember Spangler for firing (incompetently and illegally) Chief King. He’s got quite a task, since both the initial firing and the later “list of charges” drafted by Mr. Willard showed clear evidence of incompetence and illegality by his clients. Mr. Spangler tried to address those issues again at city council meeting, and by the end he had to admit that he had just signed the audit that he was still demanding to be done again.

I hope Mr. Willard represents his district better than he has those clients.

All distractions aside, I wish Mr. Chambers well, too. I used to work with several engineers in Alabama who were in the reserves, usually in intel positions. It’s been a few years, but I need to check back up on them and see if they’ve been called back up, yet.

Apparently Mr. Willard now has Mrs. Willard caught up in his shenanigans. Word has it Mr. Willard, aka Mr. Ballot stuffer, who also defends cities after they fire men going off to war, is also the city Attorney for Sandy Springs. Now he has put his wife up to run for an open city council seat. I can smell this down by the river……and it aint the river.
