Another Georgia food plant closed.

AJC: Efforts crank up as botulism fears spread

Federal investigators shut down a Georgia plant Saturday after finding the poisonous substance that causes botulism in 16 cans of hot dog chili sauce produced there, Dave Melbourne, a senior vice president for Castleberry’s in Augusta said Monday.

The closure followed a massive recall of every can of food that rolled off the suspect production line in the past two years. Investigators had found botulinum toxin in all but one of the 17 cans they tested.
