With 54% of the precincts in, Paul Broun is at 54.5% and Jim Whitehead is at 45.5%
Broun has really been able to pull in votes in Clarke County and Oconee County.
[UPDATE:] We might just be calling this race for Paul Broun. Athens has stomped Jim Whitehead. Did they not even try there? With 68% in, we’re at 54.9% to 45.1%.
A lot of crow will be eaten if Broun wins.
[UPDATE 2:] Who’s cornflakes did Whitehead pee in in Clarke County. Broun got about 1000 of those votes in the primary. In the runoff he’s gotten over 5000, or 90% of the votes cast. Of course, perhaps we should not be talking about what Whitehead did wrong and start talking about what Broun did right.

Looking at the numbers it looks like this is beyond a Athens vs. Augusta race. It looks to be Whitehead’s state senate district and Lake Oconee vs. the rest of the district.

I’ll step in line for the first plate. So much for us experts. In the top ten upsets in Georgia history?

Most of the outstanding votes are in Columbia and Richmond counties, where Whitehead is winning 2-1 to 3-1. Look for it to get a lot closer.

Indeed, wow.

Based on what’s left my projection is for Broun to win 52-48,

Not enough precincts left in Columbia, Richmond, etc. for Whitehead to make it up.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Jesus.

Broun’s victory is about as shocking as the recent comments feature working.
And yes, I got rid of all my cookies which is a terrible shame really, as I am quite hungry and with out anything to calm my sweet tooth.

Whether joking or not or only directed at liberals you don’t say you’re for bombing THE institution in Clarke County. Or Whitehead just pissed off those liberals enough to vote for Broun instead.

Shocking. Our state has elected a crazy person to Congress.

Wow. Classic case of careful-what-you-YouTube for. First classic case I should say.

That and regarding the rest of the district outside of Augusta as insignificant. It’s nice Whitehead won his backyard but he definitely lost outside of that.

The fact is the fault lies completely with Jim Whitehead.
His bonehead comments, whether freelanced or staff recommended, to make this an Athens v. Augusta contest completely backfired. There are not 5,000 Republicans in Clarke County. Yet Paul Brown pull that many or more.
Whitehead’s anti-Athens comments (again, planned or off-the-cuff) incensed enough Athenians to turn out for revenge. Clearly, even liberal Democrats turned out to vote for Paul Brown (amazing to comtemplate) simply because of Whitehead’s anti-Athens rhetoric.
Divide and conquer? Not this time.

Dr. Broun’s victory is a sign of things to come.
More and more CONSERVATIVES - Republican & Democrats are banning together to rescue this country!
I have hope again!
It is a NEW DAY in GEORGIA!
a NEW DAY coming to AMERICA!!!
Thanks to all who supported Dr. Broun!
He took the day with little big shot endorsements.
BROUN - With “YOU” not “W”!

UGH!
I did not like Whitehead’s campaign one bit, despite my affection for the MAN.
I thought that his opposition was terribly weak, however. I still think so.
This was a spanking for the GOP hierarchy and financiers.
Yet another wake-up call for a party gone off track.
