You will note that there is not one freaking word about abortion/pro-life in that set of principles. Yet, that is the primary issue on which primaries tend to be decided.

This party has been invaded by religious whack-jobs and thta invasion has wrought the sad state of affairs we have today.

But, yes, some of us DO have principles and we are pissed as all get-out about the failure of our electeds.

The GOP had principles once upon a time. They were these:

Granted, the f*cked-up elected reps and senators we have in Congress right now (and that we have in the White House) are clueless when it comes to most of these principles.

But, they do exist, despite no elected Republican member (except Ron Paul) being interested in adhering to them.

So, as a member of the RLC, do I go with Broun who I know to be untruth-full about his “real conservative” views, espousing social conservative talking points at every opportunity, that now says he’ll represent all viewpoints, or do I go with Jim Whitehead who signed the RLC pledge?

As a RLC Republican, I have chose to work within the Republican Party towards accomplishing RLC goals and I support Whitehead.

As far as his campaign, I am not a member, so I can’t speak for them.

He explains he is closer with Denise Freeman’s(D) viewpoints than with Eric Underwood’s (R). He wishes we didn’t have partisan elections, and he says he’s not far apart on most issues with Democrats and if elected he will act in a non-partisan way the day after the election.

Further, the Democrats will have someone who is interested in their issues, that he will be interested in Democratic and Republican ideas and find a common sense solution and he will act in a bipartisan way and represent all viewpoints.

I don’t remember Broun taking any of these positions before, and I have to ask, how can any Democrat/Libertarian or Republican vote for Broun?

He even admonishes the Democrats that are contemplating sitting this one out, that to do so, someone(implying Whitehead) will be elected that will represent the Republican Party.

I think it was Napoleon that said, He who defends everything defends nothing. Broun if you represent all viewpoints, you represent nothing.

The RLC does have it right. Unfortunately, the RLC is the minority opinion in the GOP. The GOP, for the most part, is made up of big-government liberals, religious bigots, and full-time political hacks without principles. It is no different from the Democratic Party.

(Wrong thread here, but…)Maybe that’s why Erick hates Ron Paul so much. Ron Paul calls the party on it’s BS. Erick only enables more big-government BS by supporting status quo candidates, and demeaning principled candidates like Paul. He (Erick) is not a conservative. He’s a closet big-government liberal.

This guys all over the spectrum. All things to all people according to which folks he’s addressing. The guy has no shame.

Last I checked, by the way, only two candidates out of the ten original ones signed the Liberty Compact: myself and Jim Whitehead. Paul Broun was asked several times to sign it, and refused.

All I can do is offer up that, personally, I’m a typical Athens-area Hubert Humphrey/human rights/civil rights/take care of the young and elderly/house the poor/heal the sick kind of Dem. I believe that the government has a place…scratch that…a responsibility when it comes to ensuring quality of life for the genuinely disadvantaged.

Before Mike-El answers you, please let me ask you this: What are the principles of the Republican party, if any exist, philosophical or otherwise?

I think Athens by and large sits this one out.
