Hat tip to the tip line for pointing out this bit from a New York Times article on the Chinese toothpaste poison, that has now spread to cough medicines and foods.
The toothpaste was handed out in dozens of state institutions, mostly in Georgia but also in North Carolina, according to state officials. Hospitals in South Carolina and Florida also reported receiving Chinese-made toothpaste, and a major national pharmaceutical distributor said it was recalling tainted Chinese toothpaste.
I assume the state bought it because it was cheap. We might want to avoid Chinese products that are ingested, given what’s been happening. The U.S. has fairly well escaped what has become a tragic situation in South America.
