Can a report from a conference committee be filibustered? I.e. if the House passes a different version, can the final bill be filibustered in the Senate, or are there rules to prevent it?

Enough! Isakson and Chambliss did what they had to do. I disagree with them but I’ve said my piece.

Now bring forward the bill and amendments and let’s get the debate going.

Isn’t that Jim Webb, Democrat from Virginia?

Interesting that both of Alaska’s senators voted yes. I guess the border issue doesn’t quite resonate with them (we’ve got to keep out those pesky Canadians and Russians!)

Chambliss would have been defeated in July or November if he had voted in favor of cloture… Isakson would have shot himself in the foot if he ever wants to run for Governor.

You may believe that it would have been the principled thing to do, but it would have been political suicide. Some things are worth “dying on the battlefield” for. Apparently, Georgia’s Senators didn’t think this was one of them.

I’m dissapointed that Isakson and Chambliss voted against bringing the border security and immigration reform measure to the floor for discussion in the US Senate.

Those of you who frequent this site know that I’m a very strong Isakson supporter and will continue to be, however, I must register my disatisfaction with this vote.

As well, some of you on this site are so misinformed on this issue that you should be embarraced.

First and foremost, we need to secure the border. I’m sorry, but burrying your head in the sand and defending the status quo is going to get us NO WHERE.

Isakson and Chambliss should have voted in favor of bringing the mature for discussion. They could have always voted against the measure later in final passage.

You are correct. Libertarian philosophy does allow freedom of movement… for law abiding peoples.

My point was more directed to the amnesty being given (will be given as a result of this vote). Because that is what BIG business and BIG government wants. They don’t care what the average person has to say or want.

It’s odd when those Republicans opposed to this are on the same side as the AFL-CIO and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Politics truly makes strange bedfellows.
