Fred Thompson, unlike most senators, has made his entire Senate archive available to the public. He did so two years ago. Senators and Representatives, as a rule, have one year from the date they leave office to dispose of their records or the National Archive tosses them.
Newsweek has been pouring through Fred!’s records and found this bit of trivia.
In 1995, Thompson’s staff sent a letter to Rep. Jack Kingston, who had forwarded Thompson a friend’s audition tape in hopes that he’d pass it on to his then-girlfriend, country star Lorrie Morgan. “As a general rule, the senator does not give tapes to Ms. Lorrie Morgan,” the letter says.

Just as an FYI, when you state “Newsweek has been pouring through Fred!’s records and found this bit of trivia,” that actually should be spelled as “poring.”
Lots of folks in the news media get it wrong a lot. Damn liberal arts majors…..oh…umm…what was YOUR undergraduate degree?

Just for the sake of the tri-fector… (and because I bet many of didn’t know this tidbit…)
I wonder if this will drag Lorrie Morgan into the ‘08 race? After all, her husband (Country Singer Sammy Kershaw) is running for Lt. Gov. of Louisiana as a Republican this year…
