Everyone’s Overseas. Is Karen Handel Acting Governor?

From the tip line:

Not only are Sonny and Casey in Europe, but Eric Johnson is with them. Oxendine is in China, and, according to my sources in the senate, the House leadership is in CUBA!!! Personally, I heard Grand Cayman from some of the House staff. Maybe that’s just the cover story.

So, it seems Karen and Thurbert are the only ones in town. I suppose we should declare Karen the acting Governor since she’s the third highest ranking statewide elected official.

[UPDATE:] OMG!!! LOL!!! If Glenn is around right now, guess what?! He’s our acting Governor!

In all seriousness…our Constitution obviously handles this – you think Roy Barnes would have left it out?

    (a) In case of the temporary disability of the Governor as determined in the manner provided in Section IV of this article, the Lieutenant Governor shall exercise the powers and duties of the Governor and receive the same compensation as the Governor until such time as the temporary disability of the Governor ends.

    (b) In case of the death, resignation, or permanent disability of the Governor or the Governor-elect, the Lieutenant Governor or the Lieutenant Governor-elect, upon becoming the Lieutenant Governor, shall become the Governor until a successor shall be elected and qualified as hereinafter provided. A successor to serve for the unexpired term shall be elected at the next general election; but, if such death, resignation, or permanent disability shall occur within 30 days of the next general election or if the term will expire within 90 days after the next general election, the Lieutenant Governor shall become Governor for the unexpired term. No person shall be elected or appointed to the office of Lieutenant Governor for the unexpired term in the event the Lieutenant Governor shall become Governor as herein provided.

    (c) In case of the death, resignation, or permanent disability of both the Governor or the Governor-elect and the Lieutenant Governor or the Lieutenant Governor-elect or in case of the death, resignation, or permanent disability of the Governor and there shall be no Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall exercise the powers and duties of the Governor until the election and qualification of a Governor at a special election, which shall be held within 90 days from the date on which the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall have assumed the powers and duties of the Governor, and the person elected shall serve out the unexpired term.

    memberg,

As with so many things in this Constitution (remember the Veto transmission fiasco) this article is incomplete.

They do not have a permanent disability so (B) and (C) do not apply. Also, (A) does not address the Lt. Governor.

So, we are currently rudderless and adrift in the abyss, sans governor. I declare anarchy.

This is different from when the Governor is in town exactly how?

How upset do you think Sonny was when he got all the way to Ireland and found out that Bass is a beer and not a fish?

I, as well, am glad that our elected officials are traveling around the world at the expense of the taxpayers. Dumb and Dumber in Europe– I think it could be a movie. If you thought Chevy Chase was funny in Europe, you ain’t seen nothing until you see Casey Cagle and Sonny Perdue in Europe. haha

Also, think about all of the staff each of them took with them. Its just like a nice summer vacation for the Gov. and Lt. Gov. staff on the tax payer dollar. Because you know Sonny has 3 or 4 staff with him and Casey has some staff with him. This is just great!

  7. Ragnar Danneskjöld says:

Buffalo, you are right. You know Dumb and Dumber have to have plenty off staff to take care of them while they are over there. I mean, without some folks to guide them, they would probably get lost.

I would take Karen over these 2 any day.

  8. Buffalo Bob says:

Karen is doing a great job, she would make a great Gov one day. I would like to know what this trip is costing the tax payers?

ha ha ha–but seriously this is 2007 not 1907–if something came up the powers that be could be back in a matter of hours or communicate via phone fax and email (like if someone was pleading for a stay of execution or something) i thnik mostly situations like this highlite just how little governing the guv has to do on a day to day basis when there is no legislation to sign or veto…ltguv is already a partime job, isn’t it?

  10. Holly says:

Congressman Worthy is staging a coup in the governor’s absence.

Dear Lord, we’re all in trouble now. 😉

I would like to know what this trip is costing the tax payers?

Me, too! One of the state reps could find that out easily, right?

  11. gatormathis says:

Surely ole Sonny has his trusty Blackberry by his side, and other amenities to take care of sudden problems that arise.

Surely he isn’t the first statesman to discover “travel”.

  12. Ragnar Danneskjöld says:

Guess Casey couldn’t get his head out of Sonny’s a*s, so he had to go along with him on the trip.

  13. DMZDave says:

And Sonny is turning to his aides in a panic saying “hey these people are speaking foreign, anybody learn any foreign before I vetoed that program?”

  14. Shakin the bush boss says:

The interesting story is not who is going on the trip, but who got “uninvited”….
