State Sen. Cecil Staton, R-Macon, has won recognition for pushing state leaders to upgrade Georgia’s trauma system network.
The Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services gave Staton the Star of Life Legislative award at its annual banquet, according to an association news release.
“Senator Staton was and continues to be a tremendous advocate for EMS professionals,” Lee Oliver, a board member of GAEMS and the EMS director for The Medical Center of Central Georgia, said in the release. “His dedication to issues that are so vital to EMS professionals is why our group chose to honor him in the best way we knew how. In particular, Senator Staton provided remarkable leadership on the issue of trauma in the state of Georgia, and we wanted to show him our appreciation for the courage he provided on this issue and many others.”
It was not a popular thing to do and he got little fan mail, but at least a necessary issue was advanced.
