Goddard is Definitely In Macon.com | 06/06/2007 | Goddard makes it official

The only candidate with a shot of beating Jim Marshall has gotten in.

Promising a focus on core values and a staunch defense of Robins Air Force Base, Republican Rick Goddard formally announced his candidacy Tuesday for the 8th Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Jim Marshall.

The retired Air Force major general and former commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base will be seeking his first political office in the 2008 election campaign.

A host of supporters and well-wishers gathered under the Warner Robins visitors center canopy for brief comments from the former fighter pilot.

Mr.Goddard came all the way to the northern extent of the district Tues. to announce his campaign in Newton County.

I had the privilege to meet him and share a few minutes of discussion. Political leaders who I respect have confidence in him. We intend to have him speak locally.

Great news that Goddard is in the race! What a great guy! I look forward to seeing a good debate with Marshall and not the “Mac Attacks” we saw last cycle with Collins.

This will be an excellent race. If Marshall does not decide to run for Senate, there is one other conservative Democrat who I believe could keep the seat.

If Marshall does not run for Senate, then this seat stays his. We’ll keep it, again.

Last time it was argued that Marshall was ineffective because he was in the minority. What will you guys attack him on now? You lost that talking point and there was not really anything else to hit him with.
