Redman released

Why did it take this long?:

The Braves released pitcher Mark Redman on Tuesday, ending his short and unsightly stay as the team’s fifth starter.

Redman was 0-4 with a 10.62 ERA in five starts before going on the disabled list with an ingrown toenail. His return Saturday went poorly – he gave up a grand slam to Boston’s Mike Lowell in 1 1/3 innings of relief – and manager Bobby Cox said afterward he didn’t see anything different from Redman.

When a guy gives up more runs than innings pitched…then there is a serious problem.

I’m a Red Sox fan, but even the Lowell grand slam had me pleading with the Braves management to release him.

Shoot, I could pitch that well for Atlanta.
