Jay,

He's a great city administrator, just not Presidential material. He MIGHT be able to go as high as a Governorship, but the presidency requires too much power...and we've seen how Bush successfully f***ed that up during his term(s).

Why some people cannot figure out their limitations ahead of time I'll never know...

He turned one of the most liberal, broke, disfunctional and crime ridden cities back into a world class city that any person living in the city of Atlanta should envy. One of the reasons he was not popular was becuase he actually thought that city employees should work and that the public dole was for the truely needy.

Rudy cleaned up the garbage from the streets of NYC and the smut from Time Square (and many other neighborhoods). The crime rate in NYC is one of the lowest of any major city in the US.

While taxes are still high in NYC, he worked to lower them and attract businesses back to the city. His response to 911 speaks for itself.

Having said this, he has several negatives that may turn some conservatives off. However I think he stands the best chance of beating the Hillary machine.

Andre: I think the Talmadge Room at Oglethorpe holds about 1/10 of that number. I somehow don't see mass congestion in Brookhaven tomorrow. (at least I hope not as I live there)

I am quite familiar with Rudy and he is not well liked. The only thing he has going for him is that he can be competitive, a factor, in all 50 states.

Back in 1984ish when he was with the US Justice Department, his handling of the child abuse and molestation events at the USMA/West Point day care facility still haunts him. In 1992-93, he asked NY Republicans for monetary and organizational support in his mayoral bid. He got it and won...a year later he endorsed Mario Cuomo for a 3rd term as Governor. Onhis way out of Gracie Mansion, Michael Bloomberg asked Rudy for his support...Michael became a Republican and Rudy supported him. NYC has so much garbage that it has to be shipped and trucked out of state. Well, some folks in Virginia were upset because their highways (presumably interstates) always had remnants of garbage from the trucks. Rudy said that other states "should be lucky to have our garbage". I could go on and on about this guy. Eventually his ego will torpedo his campaign. Since we're on the topic, who do we like in 2008? SO FAR, Brown, Gilmore, Huckabee, and Thompson (Tommy...and Fred if he hops in) seem good; their "electability" on a national level remains to be seen.
BTW - Cobb and Federalist, good points!
